What in Heavens name did that other half think was going to happen when their news media was full of doom and gloom for these ought years? But then that's just the point, they didn't. They just followed their leaders, blindly hoping for some more government control over their lives and more Government handouts.

All the while, their leaders new exactly what the effect would be. We would lose, so would the Conservatives.

When the Iraqi people gain confidence and think things are getting better, that's when things really will. They haven't dared to participate. They have been beaten down for so long and abandoned once before by the US.

Who can blame them for shutting their doors and turning their shoulder when the insurgency, emboldened by the American Media and all of our Weak kneed European counterparts keep saying, pull out, pull out.

Gentlemen,you still have not learned much about the Bedouin Arab mindset.Remember how easy it was in the war?We came in great force. There was hardly any resistance and it seemed a great success. We all know what this success turned into and it was not because of "liberals",but because the Bedouin are extremely efficient underground fighters who know when to fight and when to lay low.
Once the troop level goes down again,as it surely will,they will come back out of the woodwork and pick up where they left off.
If you read the article carefully,you will see that all the leaders fled and they did not get caught and they were not killed.
If we really want to win there, it will take some crude measures such as the wholesale killing of a tribe or 2 ,because that changes reality.
The reason why the Iraqi government deliberately dragged its feet for almost 2 weeks in starting the surge operation was mostly so the fighters would have time to hide their weapons and move out of the way.
These people love fighting each other,but they will unite to get the foreigners out.Once the foreigners are gone they will go back to fighting each other.
Please do not be so naive as to think that this Surge changed reality,it just slowed it down a bit.

Rolmops, I do agree with what you said, but i don't believe the US will get frustrated to the point of foolishly commiting genocide, that is what we are trying to prevent from happening with some small successes, perhaps as we move forward there will be more gains which may yet alter the outcome of our endeavours, let's hope that is the case.

Yes Tom I'm fine! I'm just getting into the spirit as per JB's instructions! It did hurt a little to say the conventional salutation but I'll recover after a bit. Honorable and Kerry does have a false hollow ring to it, but that is the convention. JR :$8)
