Having trouble pumping out milky oil

I bought a drill pump to change my oil. I know there is water in the oil, so it is thick and milky. No matter what I do I can't get the pump to work well enough to get the oil/water out of the pan! I tried every way of priming the tubes and everything. I even tried unbolting the dipstick from the pan but of course I can't get it cracked loose. Any other ideas? Oh...this is a 3.8L I/O. THanks

Re: Having trouble pumping out milky oil

i am pretty sure there is no drain plug. The only fitting in the bottom of the pan is the oil dipstick elbow, which for some reason, is about to rip out of the pan when i torque on it to unscrew the dipstick.

Can i use some diesel fuel to help thin it out?

I tried a drill pump-no go. A cheap attwood from wallmart worked great (hand pump).

Why don't you run it and warm it up. Then the oil will come out.
If the oil level is too high, it doesn't matter anyway cause the block is cracked.

There's an easier way. Just drain out the oil after you pull the engine. That way you can clean up and paint the bilge for the rebuilt/reman engine......(In reality....I think most wrecking yards will take engines with oil in them anyway .... )

Re: Having trouble pumping out milky oil

Come on guys, why sugar coat it.
If the oil is so thick and milky with water that it won't come out of the engine, then there is a serious amount of water in it. It didn't get there thru the cylinders from a bad manuifold, that would be a couple of tablespoons full. The only way to get that much water is to have a cracked block from freezing, or the engine was under water cause the boat sank. Since I think he would have mentioned his boat sank, what are the other possibilities?
Now if the oil level is ok, he can run it and warm it up and drain the oil with a pump. If it was put away in the fall with milky oil............................. It's probably dead anyway.

I have removed the oil filter and the s.plugs and put a container under the filter housing and just cranked it out before.

Nobody knows DHP!!!
He hasn't posted back with any details. But the ONLY time I have seen oil get so thick and milky has been with a LOT of water. If you read my first reply to him you will see where the cracked block suggestion started.

Don,Maybe it's a New England thing, but I see many boats that the owners don't pull the bilge drain when trailering. Then comes the rain, and the water enters thru the crank seals.(yes, that much water in the bilge). It's also great for starter sales!

Re: Having trouble pumping out milky oil

I will second or... forth....that.
My plug goes in before I leave for the ramp (it clips to the keys that unlock the trailer) and is the first thing I pull when I hit the parking lot (its on a big hill and its the only chance what little is in there will come out). The only reason I could see leaving the plug in when not in the water is if you needed to fill the boat up for weight. There was a big debate here a few years ago over that when a hurricane was going to hit a members house. We had one here with in months of his and I decided to block the trailer up with jack stands. I would rather take the risk of something happening from wind then filling the boat up with water.
