Looking for some help diagnosing a couple of issues. I have twin 96 Johnson 150s.
1. The carbs on both engines seem to be leaking quite a bit. When the boat is left on the trailer for a few days, I will come back to find that fuel/oil has leaked out of the cowling (under the taletale nozzle) and run down the back of the engine to the foot.
2. The engines will stall at idle from time to time. Other than that, they run great over all rpm ranges. The port engine seems to do this more often and it doesn't seem to matter if the engines are hot or cold. They only do it once they come out of "fast idle" after cranking.
3. I had a bad tach on the Stbd engine, so i replaced it. I wasn't sure I believed the tach on the port engine to begin with, just because the engine didn't sound like it was turning the rpms that the tach displayed. Well, as it turns out, the port tach is reading about 1000rpms higher at WOT than the Std (new) tach. Both tachs are set at "5" on the rear, which is what the manual says for these engines. Any way to check this to determine which tach is correct? Any other suggestions for what to check would be greatly appreciated.
I know its a lot for one post, but I need some assistance diagnosing these issues. And the leaking carbs and idle stalls are probably related.
Thanks,
Fin
