I met him in kindergarten, I remember very clearly, I was standing on the playground without any friends and he asked me to play tag. He's been my best friend ever since. The closest thing I ever had to a brother. I got another one of those calls I hate this morning. He's gone. :( 21 years old.

That's friend #5 since 2006. What the hell is in the water here? I don't think I can go to anymore funerals. Mine's probably next, as much time as I spend in the hospital.

God saw that you were getting tired,
And a recovery was not to be.
So he put His arms around you
And whispered, "Come home with me."
With tearful eyes, we watched you suffer
And saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating:
A determined spirit is at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best

I'll miss you buddy.

Awwwww, man, ZmOz. :( That's terrible.

Of the four of us who ran around together from grade 1 through High School, two died in (seperate) auto crashes before they were 20. It is a sad thing and it really interferes with the expectations of immortality that is so common in youth.

I weep with you.

I know how you feel Zmoz I lost some good friends at the age your speaking of.Its hard but you will get over it,don't be surprised when you see a stranger at a distance and it reminds you of some good times you had with your friend, believe it or not it will bring a smile too your face rather than thoughts of sadness.:(

So sorry to hear ZmOz, its a terrible loss.

Many of us have lost close friends from school at any early age, you will never forget him.

My prayers are with you and his family and all the other lives he touched during his short time on earth.

we all die, ZM... I hurt for your loss, and urge you to live so that you see your bro again. After all, this is a mere wild ride on the the highway of existances.

I got an email a few minutes ago. It was from him. I guess it got delayed in server land somewhere. One last picture. You know what his signature line always was? "See you in another life"

Re: He only takes the best...

Wow ZmOz, very sorry!! Brings back memories of a very sad time for me. I lost a best friend/soul mate in 1994, that I still think about. He was my "little brother" in the Fraternity house I was a member of in College, and we were very close and talked on the phone nearly every day. He was in his late 30s at the time with three small children, (that's not 20 but still a tragedy). He was my water ski bud for 20 years, n' was in incredible physical shape, (he could ski far longer then the rest of us in my group and was very skilled and very athletic). He was on an outing with his Air Force friends in lake Shasta. After a big lunch he and his friends went to a quiet part of the lake to relax and he got up to dive into the water and instead he did an uncharacteristic belly flop, (he passed out and flopped into the water from a surprizing enlarged heart condition no one knew he had). One of the ladies noticed his lack of grace, (as he was an expert diver), but it is very hard to get a 215 lb man out of the water, and he took in enough water that the lack of oxygen ended his life. They kept him on a resperator until I could fly to Redding the next morning to say good by, then the plug was pulled. Rode home to Seattle with his Mom Dad brother and sister crying all the way, which helped me deal with the grief. Very hard: I feel for you. JR

I feel for you last year I lost my Best friend of 25 years we met in second grade. The best thing I did was write a jounal of our times together. I still cry for her loss. It get better but there will be times you miss him sooo much and its ok to cry, get angry, all the emotions that come with it.
Thanks for the poem. keep others close to you. Life may be shakey but if you reli on the ones around you to help you you will make it.
