Fianly got the smart tabs on the boat and tried it out yesterday, man what a differnece, I have a 79' 18.6 gulfstream with an omc 800, no power trim, It was the worst, bow rise was way to much, rough riding in chop, chine walking like crazy and the porposing was soo bad, I put on smart tabs new version, the plastic ones, 80 lb, there is hardly any bowrise, no porposeing, just glides over wakes and very little chine walking. I never liked rough water because of getting beat up but now it makes my boat ride like it never did before. Nautcus has done a great job!!! thank you!!!!

Re: Praise for Smart tabs

There are only two types of boat owners,

Those that have Smart Tabs and those that need Smart Tabs.

No kidding, I have never seen a product that does what it claims to the degree of Smart Tabs.

I catch H*ll all the time at the boat ramp from fellow Bass Boaters wanting to know why I have those on my boat. They always say. "If you need those, then there is something wrong with your boat set up"! Untill I blast them out of the hole like they were glued to the bottom of the lake.

Even if you already have power trim tabs?

Valkyr;

Even I would say that if the boat already has trim tabs then no need to re-invent the wheel.

Re: Praise for Smart tabs

There are a couple of interesting threads on the Boatered site this week concerning Smart Tabs.

One post mentioned a show called Ship Shape TV that did a couple year test of the Smart Tabs.

Has anyone seen this show?

you were very right Boomyal!, I didnt dought you at all. hows the black anchor project goin??

Very slow aerwin. It kinda got put on the back burner by my 19 y/o house resto. Got to erase all the evidence of little feet and hands pattering around the house all those years. Besides, I have to keep Mrs Boomyal happy so that someday I can bring the black anchor home.:D

i just started researching this product. I have a quick question about the differences between the ST1290-60 and the SX9510-60. I assume the composite version is the one I would go for in my application (2003 18' Centrury 1800 with Yamaha F115 four strole) because I live on a brackish river, and the boat stays in the water.

Is there any performance loss with the "plastic" version over the stainless steel? Do you recommend the stainless, and use anodes?

thanks, and I hope I asked this in the right area (i am new to this forum, even though when i log in it says i joined in Dec 1969 :)

Yes, I saw it... He put them on a boat with a sea drive. Once again SmartTabs came through. However, they were hell bent on backing into his slip and felt the tabs caused the stern to plow when put into reverse. He removed them and put on Bennett's. Strange thing, Bennett's is a show sponsor. Wonder if there is any coincidence ? Hmmmmm??

As for the BoaterEd bunch, the owners of the site are Bennett dealers and have all the sheeple on that site anti-SmartTab. I won't go to that site anymore. They want you to pay $20 a year... that after I'd spent over $700 with them @ Boatfix.

John, welcome to IBoats. If you search this forum for SX SmarTabs, you will find a post about a month ago that Naughty JoHn replied to answering your main question. In brackish waters you need zincs installed on each of SS tabs. The SX do not need them. They are made out of composite... not plastic btw. I just put a set on my boat last weekend.

yeah...I don't really trust any reviews on anything where the part/vehicle getting tested is an advertiser in the magazine doing the testing.

I prefer Iboats to Boatered as far as the forums go. I spend way more money at Boatfix though.

I don't pay the $20...not worth it.

Re: Praise for Smart tabs

I thought his boat choice was poor. That engine stuck out pretty far IMO making that boat rear heavy anyway. Would have preferred that he used a straight outboard instead of a seadrive setup.

(Why do they call them SeaDrives, when they look like an outboard?)

That was an OMC marketing deal when they were trying to sell a complete package with an integrated transom "bracket". Not a bad idea but it didn't catch on.
