I have a 19 ft bay boat with a E-tec 150 H.O. It is new and I am trying my 2nd prop. The first was a Bass Renegade 13.5 x 23. I was only turning 4800 rpm at WOT. I traded it in for a Cyclone 14 1/8 x 19. Given the rule of thumb that 2 inches of pitch gives around 400 rpm, I thought this would give me around 5600 rpm. Yesterday, I went out and could only turn 5000 rpm. I know the blade diameter is larger, but I didn't think it would make a 600 rpm difference. Why did this only slightly increase RPM? I played with the trim and jackplate to gain RPM but 5000 was Max. If I need to re-prop (again) what prop and pitch would you recommend? The Cyclone only goes down to 17" and proportianally goes up in diameter to 14 1/4. I don't think this would give me the difference I need to get close to my 5750 rpm limit. I will be giving my prop guy a call tomorrow to discuss, but I welcome and appreciate any of your opinions. Also, my prop guy likes the BRP brands and seems to downplay the brands such as Stiletto, Michigan Wheel, and other less expensive alternatives. To me, it seems that if a prop works, gives you the performance you want, and doesn't vibrate or fly apart, it should be ok. Can someone explain what makes a "quality" prop better than a cheaper one?
Thanks!
