Mmmmmm, somebody mentioned Sam Adams. I used to drink that when there was only 1 flavor. I'll have to put that on the list.

Re: The Beer thread!!!

Lately I've been drinking Newcastle, but I like Sam Smiths better.

I also like Yuengling.

Most of the local independents are gone now. Any of you Wisconsin or Minnesota boys know if Schells of New Ulm or Grain Belt are still in business and/or independent?

Schells is still around and I too like their beers.

The Spoetzl Brewery located in Shiner, Texas makes the "Shiner" brand of beers. All good. I also like just about any Sam Adams.

New Belgium out of Fort Collins Colorado makes a host of good beers. I like their "Fat Tire". Another brewery called Boulevard out of Kansas City also makes some good beer. Their wheat beer is great with a wedge of lemon.

Pete's Wicked Ale is another favorite of mine.

I've said it before & I'll say it again - American beer is like making love in a canoe....it's ****ing close to water! :D

Sooo true.
I like Bass Pale Ale. Grolsch, Pilsen Urquell, and Trappist from the monestary.
There used to be a decent beer from Texas,it was called Stroh. It was probably the liquid that was closest to beer, ever produced in the USA.

I remember getting Pabst Bock when I was an underaged drinker . . . Is that still available? Also, I really like Gosser Dark, but haven't seen that here in over 20 years. I think they tried to get the Lager going here a few years ago, but then off to obscurity again. How about Gordon Biersch Marzen . . . Yummy.

Rolmops:

Unless there was another brewery in Texas by the same name, the Stroh Brewery was from Detroit Michigan. "Fire Brewed" if I recall. They tried and failed to go national in the late 70's and early '80's during the great consolidation of the brewing industry.

When I was a kid we had Senate beer from Washington, bought out by Hamm's and then out of business.

The next local was Gunther from Baltimore that bit the dust.

National Bohemian "from the land of pleasant living. Brewed on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay," lasted until the early 80's.

Rolling Rock from Latrobe Penna. lasted until just a few years ago. The were bought out by the Canadians, and I believe that the brewery in "Old Latrobe" was closed about a year ago.

Yeungling out of Pottstown Pa is as close to local as we have in Virginia now...excluding micros.

My county is home to one of the first successful micros, Dominion Brewery.

They also make a heck of a Root Beer made with honey.

Re: The Beer thread!!!

Thanks for that correction Jinx.
By the early nineties, when I discovered it,it had changed ownership to a Texas brewery.
It was a great beer for me because it tasted just like the beer I used to drink off base in holland, where we fourteen year olds were allowed to legally drink beer and on base they would have hung us by the bills if they caught us kids.

Re: The Beer thread!!!

First choice, Becks Dark, Second choice is Yuengling Lager, then its Rolling Rock or Miller. Was never a fan of any of the Anheiser Busch beers, and the Coors beers are usually too light.
I never much cared for the micro brews since most are ales and tend to have a sweet taste to them. A cold fermented lager is always better to me.
Some of the old standards are ok too, Pabst, Carling Black Label, etc, but as a rule my fridge is always full of Yuengling. Beck's is a better beer to drink with a meal though. If I'm working in the yard on a hot day I like a case of ice cold Yuengling lager long necks on ice, just shy of frozen.

Molson XXX, Yuengling Lager, Killian's Red and strong Captain&Coke or Irish Coffee. "Course, for the most part if you put it in front of me, I'll drink it. I also like a good single malt scotch.

Well, for hanging out with friends and drinking I enjoy my Dos Equis. Sitting around fishing when nothing is biting for hours on end.... sad to say but just plain old Budweiser.

I switch back and forth between Brain Melt (grain belt) and Leinies original for everyday beer.
Sometimes, when I have a little extra scratch, I like good belgians, chimay, redhook, love schell's - mostly zommerfest and original, local fave lake superior brewing does some yummy ones, new belgium, maybe a kirin or sapporo with some sushi
NO LIGHT BEER!!!!:mad::(

Re: The Beer thread!!!

My all time fav is a seasonal micro brew from Deshutes Brewery in Bend OR. It is Jubelale, about 7.5%. I buy several cases in the winter so as to carry me into the summer. It comes in November and is out of print by February.

If I go out to Chevys (mexican) I have to have a grande Dos Equis, on tap. Just yummy with the tacos and beans.

I also like Sapporo but have trouble finding it in the markets these days. For an everyday equiv of you 'water drinkers', I like Alaskan Amber.

When I really want to go to town, I go rustle up a bottle of Old Knucklehead @12%, it is still a beer but they call it a Barley Wine.

The rest of the time it is plain ol' cheapo Wodka with Safeway tonic and lots of lime.

Oh, and I shouldn't forget many a good Merlot for dinner.

Heineken, Becks,or Stella on good days. On cheap days its Mich lite. If my fridge is empty, my neighbors Bud in a can. In the Bahamas its Kalik. In Cali. its Pacifico. In Florida its Dos Equis (no fruit). In New Hampshire its Harp. With mexican food its Tecate. At my neices keg parties its probably Busch or whatever was cheap. Once in a while I like a can of Fosters or a Guinness. Once I get started I'm not very picky. Hmm...I never noticed that I am a geological beer drinker.
