Straub of St. Marys Pa... One of the only hometown breweries left. My second is Yeungling.

Actually I prefer Scotch (pinch) and a good Dry Martini.

Re: The Beer thread!!!

I'm not really a beer drinker, I guess that's my problem, I never really aquired a taste, or craving for it, but when I was younger, working construction in NYCity, or Long Island, I used to imbibe once in awhile, or overimbibe once in awhile, :D or Way overimbibe once in awhile  Hey, it works like antifreeze, or, coolant, no? ;) Anyway, a good beer on tap is much better then canned, or bottled, I've seen, and sampled, the trend over the years go from Rheingold (rotgut), to Ballantine, to Schaeffer, to Budweiser, but once in awhile on a hot day, I like to have a good cold beer as a change of pace, it usually is Bud, or Coors light, but I actually prefer Killian's red when I can get it. It only takes a couple, or a few, for me to get bloated, and, or, lose the taste, then I'm done. My son likes Yengling, I don't know why?, I don't care for it? but On ocassion, when I'm in a liquor mood, I like some fine light Scotch, my fav is Johnny Walker Red, but most any Scotch will do, Except J&B! But, I can't seem to guzzle any of this stuff like I used to anymore :( maybe it's a good thing  The beer in my fridge, if there ever is any usually goes bad from sitting for months at a time.

I'll have to cast my vote for a pint of Smithwick fresh from the tap. Hard to beat.

Re: The Beer thread!!!

My everyday beer is Amber Bock (Michelob I think). I drink most of the ambers and if I want my friends over, I supply Fat tire. Although it is only available in like 1L bottles or something like that here.

I have also tried recently the Stella Artois, though I don't know anything about it, and think it is pretty good.

Couple factoids..

Pony calls the Bud "corn water". It is actually "rice water". My cabin neighbor drinks it because it uses rice instead of hops which doesn't trigger his allergies.

My dad worked for the Grain Belt brewery in NE MPls for over 23 years until it was sold to Heiliman who made Schmidt beer in St Paul. he would take me on tours all the time in the old brewery. My dad said the beer was never the same, although he thinks the Schells variant is pretty decent.

Maybe your neighbor means he drinks it because of the rice rather than corn or wheat. I don't know of a beer out there that does not use hops.

Budweiser does use hops in the brewing process.

Retired early and want to stay that way, so it's Milwaukee's Best "Lite" on sale...gotta watch the figure, plus its takes longer to pass out on Lite...I hang with people who work, so on the weekends, I help them knock down the Corona's they can afford..BUT no limes or umbrella drinks my side of the bar..also ride Milwaukee's Best, and its in our By-Laws:D

Red Hook or Harpoon IPA's. I like the hoppy flavors. There's a microbrewery in VT called Catamount. They sell an unfiltered ale that looks like its got something living in the bottle! Good stuff though. For everyday, cheap consumption I don't think you can beat a Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Guinness tops the list of beers for me. Boddingtons is a lighter in color beer but with the same thickness of Guinness, it's tasty too! A very close 2nd is Sam Adam's Cherry Wheat. At the bars I stick to regular ol' Bud (easier on the wallet!)

Other than beer, Crown & Ginger.

Brooklyn Lager is awesome. All the Brooklyn Brewery beers are excellent. And I didn't see anyone mention Anchor Steam. Very good beer. I can't drink the watery offerings of most of the big players n the US market anymore. No taste to them- too light.
