Purchased 1996 Yamaha 85. I know the prior owner, they took excellent care of the boat and engine. Engine appears like it is brand new. Sat for 4 years prior to my purchase.
Towed boat from NC to NJ. Drained fuel tank. 50:1 mix Castro marine oil. Fuel ball very hard, used plyers to pump. Took much time to get fuel to engine, however once there, engine started right up. Engine quickly overheated. - Replaced the impeller - Engine does not overheat.
Engine sounds great - starts right up every time. Will not exceed 2500 rpm in the water. In Nuetral engine will rev, in gear, in water, runs slow. Engine responds to first 1/3 of throttle. Nothing on other 2/3 of throttle.
Carb pins were removed and carbs sprayed. Mech. says they look too good to do a rebuild unless nothing else works.
Manual states that when engine overheats the engine limits the rpms to protect the engine. The original overheat was on shore. Is it possible the rev-limit switch is not re-setting? Where is the rev-limit switch. I do not have a manual yet. Is a carb re-build my only option? Thanks for looking.
