Why is everyone suggesting going to Crownline instead of the dealer?
It's called leverage.

One disgrunbtled owner breathing down a dealer's neck is not nearly as effective as the manufacturer breathing down the dealer's neck.

Make sure you keep a record of the hull number.
If they take it back, they will put you on the list of boats to be built.
If they are 100% cooperative (the dealer and/or the factory) they should make a good faith effort to locate a very simular "in stock" boat and arrange for it to come your way A.S.A.P.

I say record the hull numbers so that if you have to wait for one to be built, you don't end up with the same boat after being "fixed" at the factory.

I don't have much use for lawyers, but this is one case where I would be hiring one...immediatly if not sooner. There should be a new boat sitting in your driveway, or wherever.

How many gallons is there? I think getting it out would be a priority. The lines and tanks may start leaking and then kablueeie. Then the insurance would pay. In fact, if you have insurance, you should contact them. For heavens sakes, don't park that inside anywhere. Thanks.............SS

You know the dealer is going to say that you put the gas in there don't you? That's why you need a lawyer.

that's as bad as the kid at the full service gas station. pumping 25 gallons into the rod holder. Yes, it did happen to someone on the forum a couple of years ago.

Actually no... i purchased the boat from a reputable dealer and he has never questioned who did it. I am a bit shocked at everyone simply attacking my dealer on this thread. I point of the thread was to ask for advice on what needs to be replaced and if the boat can be made "like new." Everyone seems to have instantly made the dealer out to be a used car salesman. Truth is they have been very helpful so far, as soon as i called them about the problem (5:30pm) they jumped in a truck and drove out to my house and picked up the boat. They have assured me that they will make things right and i have no reason to question that. Yes, I am frustrated that i am not out on the lake in my new boat, but so far working with the dealer and Crownline believe we will resolve the issue to my satisfaction. Either fixing my boat or waiting for a new one (which BTW would take about 2+ months since the factory is closed all of July.)

You seem very unconcerned about "how" this happened. It is the dealer that has their hands on the boat last, just prior to delivery. It is their responsibility to inspect that boat to make sure it is water ready. Part of that check is to test the water system which they obviously did not do. For heavens sake, had you not noticed the problem and hit the water, fired the engine and had an explosion, then what. You, your significant other, kids, a bunch of friends all end up fried beyond recognition because an idiot put fuel in the water tank. And now you are going to trust them to fix it. Ya -- right.
Pre-delivery checks are done for a reason -- it was not done in this case and the dealer that didn't do it would be the last outfit in the country I'd trust trying to fix it.

You are fortunate to have a dealer that is understanding, but he may be treading on thin ice becauses he knows he dodged a huge bullet and is afraid you may do more than just ask for a new boat.

Contacting your Mfg may also be a courtesty to them in the case they need to put in place warnings or process changes so that this wold not happen again. I would bet in the case of disaster that the mfg would be brought in as a responsible party and could be liable for part of the damages.

This should've scared the crap out of anyone near this transaction.

I can't believe that you pumped out a bilge full of fuel through a bilge pump and are still here typing about it.

New boat. No more, no less. That is completely unacceptable and the dealer apparently knows it.

My two cents.

The water system is very small. The entire system could be replaced in a few hours and that would solve it. It only has a 15 gallon tank , a few lines, a pump and a faucet. I think if they replace all that , your new boat will still be new.

Keep in mind shipmates, you get this boat in a legal battle and he'll never see water in that boat or a replacement boat for a year or two. With him being in the north, boating time is short and priceless. Replacing the fresh water system is a lot better, and cheaper in the long run. Plus it gets him back on the water quicker,,,,,,,and that is what boating is all about.

I understand screw up happens... it sounds like the dealer is trying. Having said that, a prop or some accessories, or a voucher for free XX hour servicing or something would be a sign of good faith/apology by the dealer. Don't forget you lost the use of your boat for one weekend already... with every boating day that goes by, my expectation of what would "make it right" would go up.

thats my $.02.

Forget about getting a lawyer at this point. First of all, the dealer is attempting to make you whole, no one's been hurt, & at this point you have no case. Wait & see how the dealer handles it. If you hire a lawyer at this point, you can kiss this boating season goodbye.
