Re: Help! Dealer delivered my new boat with fuel in the fresh water tank!

Actually no... i purchased the boat from a reputable dealer and he has never questioned who did it. I am a bit shocked at everyone simply attacking my dealer on this thread. I point of the thread was to ask for advice on what needs to be replaced and if the boat can be made "like new." Everyone seems to have instantly made the dealer out to be a used car salesman. Truth is they have been very helpful so far, as soon as i called them about the problem (5:30pm) they jumped in a truck and drove out to my house and picked up the boat. They have assured me that they will make things right and i have no reason to question that. Yes, I am frustrated that i am not out on the lake in my new boat, but so far working with the dealer and Crownline believe we will resolve the issue to my satisfaction. Either fixing my boat or waiting for a new one (which BTW would take about 2+ months since the factory is closed all of July.)

Well! You should be on the lake by now since you have such a "reputable dealer". Good luck.

So what did the dealer end up doing? On the water yet?

I understand that people make mistakes, but what kind of idiot puts GAS in the tank that is CLEARLY marked "WATER." The fact is, whoever did that should get fired, but they won't... so they can do it again.

I'd go for a new boat, unless they are willing to fix it and give you some other kind of upgrade or something... and like others said, you are lucky it didn't burst into flames when that pump was turned on.

What ever happened with this? Is the dealer stepping up to the plate?

He must have sold it and bought an airplane... Same problem with airplanes though.. Many have crashed as a result of the line service guy pumping the wrong fuel .. Big cap will say "AVGAS ONLY".. yet there is always someone who gets a tank of JetA instead... Avgas will burn o.k. in a jet engine albeit a little hotter, but the other way around just doesn't work...The aircraft runs fine on the avgas that's still in the lines but right after take off it starts sucking the kerosene and stops running... big surprise..

don't know that I would hire an attorney at this point. First tell the dealer you want a new boat not the old one fixed. I agree with everyone else here you will never get the gas out of that system. I would notifiy Crownline giving them the hull number and tell them what happened. The dealer needs to give you a loaner boat to use until you get the new one. It's their mistake and they will just have to eat the cost as I don't believe Crownline will take that boat back. Unfortunately they will probably rehab it and sell it to someone else as new. I would request from Crownline that they prevent that from happening. If they don't want to do all of the above then contact an attorney.
