Power trim stuck

Started out normal day yesterday. Got to the lake pushed the boat out in the water (shallow), parked the truck. Pushed off the shore and jumped in. I hit the trim button to lower the motor down. Motor proceeds to go down. I release the switch at the appropriate time, but the hydraulic pump stays on! It didnt stop till I disconnected the leads at the battery.

Basically, the trim is stuck in the down position. I am 100% certain the issue is not the switch. I unplugged the switch and it still wants to go down. Tried reversing the power leads to and still goes down. Tried acutuating the second soleniod but never got it to work. Ended up unbolting the trim cylinders so I could get the boat out of the water. Thank goodness it was beautiful weather last night.

Question. I am guessing that the one or both of the soleniods are bad. Is the correct? Other advice would be helpful. This is my first boat and I am getting into this boating thing. Never had a boat growing up but it is quite fun! The boat is a 81' Champion bass boat 15.5' length with a 115 mercury outboard.

Re: Power trim stuck

Sounds like the down solenoid is stuck. You can verify this with an ohm meter or swapping them.

Re: Power trim stuck

Turns out this was the case. I replaced it with another generic one for the auto parts store. However, I can get the motor to go up or down at any given point but I switch one of the smaller leads to accomplish this. Essentially I will have to place a selector switch to make this work right.

Now I dont mind putting in the switch and wiring it but I am going to be up without a paddle if the other right solenoid ever goes out. Where can I find an exact replament? I will try hunting around the web. Back of this one says 12v 10P. Then has a serial number or similiar printed exactly as: 89 68258

All help is appreciated.

Re: Power trim stuck

Dealer should have them. They are not very expensive. Seems like one for my 83 150 was around $20.
