Hi all! I recently was replacing H2O pump and happened to notice two white plastic tubes lodged inside the water outlet boot of my 1989 Force 125hp "A" series. I happen to own an original parts catalog for this engine and it identifies these in the "Lower Leg" section as being "Stand Tubes" (part# 816515). Sadly, the diagram does not show how, or where, they attach.
Ok, million dollar question.....What are they for? AND are they ness. to run engine?
My tech has no clue as to what they are for, but my personal opinion is they somehow regulate water level in the leg at low rpm. Any definite knowledge would be greatly appreciated?

They Attach To The Cooper Tube That Sucks Up The Cooling Water Into The Engine.

Re: Plastic tube in h2o outlet boot?????!!!?????

Hey, thank you for the reply DP!
But I am not sure if they actually attach to that tube. First, there are two of them and only one copper tube, and second, on this engine the tube runs all the way up to the power head. Also, I have no cooling issues at this time, and I have excellent outlet flow. I used the old "bent on the end coat hanger" to fish them out of the lower leg and have been running that way for awhile. However, I do have a telltale of steam from the outlet at low rpm and idle.
Any suggestions to a oldtime Force tech who might clear this matter up?

I had one in the rubber bellows on my 88 125. while playing with it it fell into the leg. Engine seemed to run the same. I suspect these tubes are there to direct water and idle relief gases away from the vent to avoid excessive smokiness. --maybe-- My factory manual also shows them but doesn't explain anything and is not clear on where they attach. BTW, mine are black plastic.

Thanks for the input Frank! Do you think the part name of "Stand Tube" is referring to water level (like the stand tube in a toliet tank), or "stand" in the way of some sort of support?

Probably refers to water. But who knows? they give some weird names to other parts.

hi mate I just put a new leg on my 55 chrysler off a 65 and they have 2 white plastic tubes about 3 inches long whith 4 rows of little holes in them, they are screwed into the top part of the leg and keep the water around the exhaust pipe {megaphone} and help it flow out of the snout at the rear of the motor as a telltale, they are called idle baffles??
