Went up to Lake Nosbonsing last year and rented a small OB and 12' for fishing.

Went into a nice weedy area and dropped anchor.

Fished for a few hours there. GREAT pickerel. And medium pike hitting every 5 or 6 minutes!

We decided to pack it in for the day and turn around and head back to the cvottage.

I noticed the boat was awful slow... poor handling... what could be wrong?

I was pulling the anchor.... with a ball of weeds attached about 4 foot in diameter. We pulled it in (Weeds and all) and the boat took off like a rocket :) Brought the weeds back to show everyone our catch for he day :)

The next day we went back and you could see a perfect line of weeds missing where we travelled through :)

Anchors away!

Re: Last year....

A friend of mine once hurled my un-connected anchor into the water after I asked, "can you please throw the anchor out?"

He sat there and watched the line run out of the boat. It suddenly dawned on me that he had not tied the other end off, and as soon as I shouted for him to grab it, the line disappeared over the bow.

He looked at me like, "what?"

I said nothing, but mentioned there was a change of plans and we were going to try drift fishing.

LOL......... The only issue with an anchor I have had sor far is getting caught up with another boats anchor. The wind came up fast and started shifting boats real fast..

Re: Last year....

My future son in law lost ours while on vacation a few weeks ago. I have no idea what happened but as he pulled it in all of a sudden it got light and in came just the rope !!!! cleat and all ???
He did not know what to say or do and even volunteered to go get it as we were in about 7 ft of water. I declined his offer and told him that we can easily replace an anchor but not him. However I will remind him of it occasionally if I think he will buy me a beer to keep quiet !!! LOL

That happened to me once, before I installed my AnchorMate. I found that you can easily recover an anchor rope with just about any sinking crankbait. I got mine back on the first try. But you have to act fast if there's any wind. It's amazing how hard it is to find the spot you were anchored at.

Re: Last year....

so far I haven't done that with an anchor yet, but I have done it twice with fishing gear. Got the spreader, the weight, the leader and $5 plug all set up, tossed it overboard, and then realized it wasn't connected to my pole... doh!

;D Not very happy when you see it flying across the cove either.

Re: Last year....

Although this did not happen to me directly a coworker tells this story and has us laughing everytime.

He and his wife rented a small boat with o/b for crabbing. He asks his wife to throw out the anchor which she promptly does and they watch as the rope disappears over the side.

Well he explains that he was less than gentle with his wifes feeling...."how could you lose the anchor!!!, now will have to pay for that!!! Oh my god!!!!This is horrible, what were you thinking!!!!"

Well as they are pulling back to the rental marina the man on the dock kindly asks "do you know you are dragging your anchor?"

The anchor was attached the whole time to the winch hook on the hull of the boat below the rail. I can only imagine the look on their faces.

Its got me laughing again right now.

Re: Last year....

My buddy(who had a habit of tripping and falling IN the boat and out once or twice) once got his rod rigged, stood up in the front of the boat to cast...rared back, cast and let go of the rod instead of the line....threw the whole rig in.....gotta give him credit though, within a second of realizing what he had done, he dove in after it, and caught it before it hit the bottom....good thing it was a warm day!

I'll have to watch that as it sounds funny. I'm pretty sure those things happen to just about everybody at some time in there lives so it's great that Bill Dance has a great sense of humor to share them with us. I really don't think I would want to share moments like that with the world, I don't care how much he makes off the video.

Last wknd my cousin says to me, as I am walking past him to the back of the boat to relieve myself....."hey chris...you might want to check your fishing line". I say yea yea....be there in a second. I go and sit in chair and grab my rod...check the line....I said "yup...looks like fishing line" and I throw my trout killer over the side to start trolling, only to see my lure sink to the bottom.
Ummm....maybe next time tell me to check my line "because it is broken", not to "just check my line".

Seems like the only time I get a bite is when I'm digging in the cooler, rerigging or rebating my 2nd rod,or taking a leak.
