Mercruiser Trim/Tilt noise at speed

All,
I'm currently experiencing a whining noise (best description I have) from the power trim/tilt when I get up to speed. If the engine is all the way down, it's not a problem but tilt up just a little and it's start to whine. I've checked the fluid level and all appears good. This would imply something with the motor but that doesn't make complete sense to me probably because I don't fully understand how the hydrolic system works.
I'm assuming the problem is associated with the engine being slightly tilted the force of the engine against the boat is absorbed by the trim/tilt system(i.e. increased stress on the system) While it's down, the load is transfered more through the physical trim stops. As I understand it, the motor is not active in anyway accept when I press a button to go up or down. The engine stays in the right position (i.e. it's not like it drops under the pressure). So what's causing the noise?

Any thoughts are definately appreciated?

As the engine is trimed up at speed the noise begins and continues after the button is released. The noise will remain until lowered almost fully down (it does seem to stop just before reaching the lowest position). Note, there aren't any weird noises when raising and lowering the engine while moving slow or stopped. That's why I'm associating it with additional stress on the trim/tile hydrolics.

Thanks for the reply

What is that? I'm technically inclined but not a engine guru. That doesn't sound like anything hydrolic.

Again, thanks for the replies

It's been greased now. I unfortunately I can say I've never greased. I can't confirm that the dealer has done it as part of the winterization and such. I've always done periodic greasings but I never knew that one was available. I've looked over it every time. We'll have to see if that helps or if I ruined it beyond repair.

I would agree...sounds like the gimbal bearing. If its been making this noise for a long time, better replace it, you may end up damaging more expensive other components.

Mine was doing the same thing, and It was completly shot, pretty much fell apart in my hands.
