I have a project that is underway and i'm glad i found some where to ask some questions

Here is my project so far
http://s35.photobucket.com/albums/d195/viper_coleca/Boat/

I need to finish removing some rotten wood, before i can work on installing a floor.

What is the best tool for removing some of the overlapping fibreglass that was used to hold down the old flooring (still some rotten wood underneith) I'm also trying to find some pictures of the boat or one of same model when it was new, the only info I have of the boat is on the metal hull ID plate

Boat Manufacture: Sunray Boats
No. 8411908
Model: Escapade D-L

If anyone wants to share some ideas or tips I would really apperciate it

Re: Sunray Escapade

issue is I need to cut some fiberglass out of the boat, so sounds like sanding discs for an angle grider would be the best option thanks

Re: Sunray Escapade

i went to look at flooring today 3/8" marine plywood should do the trick, and then marine carpeting? or is there something else that i should be doing to keep the floor in better shape?

Re: Sunray Escapade

use carpet only if it's your last resort - it always holds moisture - your worst enemy - i'm putting a new floor in my 88 sea ray right now and am going to either Rhino-Line it or use Uniflex 255 Aliphatic from rotdoctor.com - These coverings will also act as a first line of defense from water and still give you tread opposed to poly paint that doesnt. hope that helps and Good Luck!

Re: Sunray Escapade

What are you using to redo the stringers? Have you checked the transom for rot? All of that needs to be done before the floor goes in.
by the looks of the pictures you have some severe rot and probably some wet foam to remove.
It may be a lot of work but thats a cool old boat and should be easy to work on.

on the metal plate mounted near the splash well

Sunray NO. 8411908
escapade model: escapade D-L

not quite sure but the plate does say 65 HP

couldn't find the the hull ID

the transom is in great condition and the stringers have some rot got it all dug out and replaced with newer wood and glassed in the ends to seal it completely

Re: Sunray Escapade

the hull id number should be on the top right hand corner on the back of the transom, if you were facing it. that would tell you the year. but none the less you got a great boat there. have you physically measured the centreline length? i'm only asking for my own info. i've got brochures here.
