Boat removal?

Does anyone know how to get rid of an old boat? I recently acquired an old tri-hull for parts and I want to keep the trailer but ditch the boat.

I was thinking of removal everything parts-wise and cutting the boat into pieces and hauling to the landfill. has anyone else done this or do you know of a better way?

I live in the canton, ga area. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks.

If you don't want to buck the HOA, check out the landfills. BFI in northern Illinois will take it for $40 and no title necessary. Just take it to the active part of the landfill and unstrap it. They will hook a peg foot CAT to it, yank it off, roll forward over it and then in reverse. All that's left is a 4" fiberglass pancake.

Thanks for the info, burroak, but I am located in Canton, Georgia. Do you know if the landfills here have the same capabilities? I can check around myself but just thought maybe someone has done this before.

Thanks.

It's not a high tech deal. Just call and verify that they will take fiberglass boats. The CAT is on duty all the time to move and compact the garbage. The operator will tell you where to position the trailer. You unstrap it and he'll do the rest. Don't go to the effort of cutting it up. If they'll take fiberglass parts, they will surely take the whole boat. Size is not an issue. There is a fee but well worth it and you know what I mean. There are no free boats whether you refurbish them or salvage them.:D

Re: Boat removal?

I know the landfills in western North Carolina will take the boat. I hauled one in there and they pulled it off the trailer, played with it for awhile then crushed it.
Cost me $42.00 but it was worth it, just to watch the 2 loaders play "soccer" with it for a few minutes.

What about donating it to Charity? You'll get at least $500 deduction on your 2007 taxes and they will come and pick it up.

The rules now, if I am informed correctly, you get a deduction for the amount that the item sold for. However, I'll defer to more knowledgeable posters.

Pull it a few miles out and sink it them mark that spot on your GPS and next year that will be your favorit fishing hole. The government does it! They just call it a man made reef.

I usually take mine to the boat ramp at night and practice launching without training on my retrieval skills.:D

Your right the rules have changed begining this year, but I just donated an old trailer and they told me I could deduct the amount it sold for but no less than $500.
