Water ballon fun!

So, my 6 year old is playing with water ballons in my driveway. He "claims" that he was just throwing one and it just happened to land on the prop nut on my B3, broke and the balloon fell down inside. I can't get it out the way things stand without removing my props. What damage will happen if I run it without getting it out first?

Why not just remove the props and take it out? The props need to come off a couple of times a season anyway to make sure there's no fishing line or anything else wrapped around the shaft and to grease the shaft so that the props won't end up stuck on there.

Sounds like you have a good reason to go and buy the correct wrenches!!
Its very unlikely the baloon will do any harm, but as stated earlier, its always good to remove the prop and make sure it is greased otherwise you will have a hell of a job to remove the prop later on..

go to your local marine shop and get the proper tool or if you have a large socket set that will work too. either way you look at it you have to get the proper tools to remove the nut.

I plan to buy the wrenches, I was more or less just curious what might happen with the balloon in there.

The 200 horses from your engine will rotate the props and they will chew up the balloon and some of it might get wrapped around the prop shafts, but unlikely to do any damage as balloon are soft and propellors aren't!!

You can go boating without any worries of damaging anything, but you should remove it as soon as possible just to avoid any issues later on.

You wouldn't think fishing line was very hard either until you get some wrapped around your prop shaft and it cuts a groove into the shaft or ruins the shaft seal.

Ok, got the outer nut off, no one warned me about the nut for the inner prop. WTF is this thing? Is there a special tool I need to get it off? Can I buy a box wrench this size?

Ayuh,........

Looks like I got here alittle Late,.......

The Bravo IIIs have a Special Nut on the Inner prop,....
Mercruiser will sell you the Wrench for it......
And,.........
While I agree with most of the above posts,.....
Fishing line is Bad,+ the propshaft should be Greased, atleast Annually......

For the shads of a broken Balloon,.........
I believe the 1st Blast of Exhaust would clear it from the cavity it's in......

Order yourself the proper Prop Wrenchs,..........
And,..........
In the mean time,...... Take the kid Boating,+ have a Good Time.................;)

Put the muffs on, hit the starter, it'll be on your driveway in seconds.

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to remove that prop at some time.

The inner nut is a 2 3/4" nut.

It requires a pretty good size wrench and it will be tight. Mercury sets the torque at 100 Ft-lbs for it.

You could get a "Proper Thing" for a Bravo III

I made a socket out of a hub nut for a 4 wheel drive hub. I had to do a little cutting/welding to get it to fit though. I'd get a Proper Thing next time!

Cheers,

Good grief guys. Start the engine and run it (OUT OF GEAR) for a couple of minutes and the water will wash out a piece of balloon. It's not like there was anyone realing in the line on the other end to tighten it around the prop shaft BETWEEN the props.
Then after you run it, pick the pieces up out of the drive way an go boating.
And get your prop wrench setup before you really need it.
