if an outdrive has been off the boat for a few months, is there anything that should be examined, replaced, oiled, or any special procedure performed before affixing it to the boat again?

Re: outdrive question

Unless it was sitting out in the weather getting sun then cold then water or moisture in/on it the only thing to really do is change the oil otherwise there are plenty of boats that sit for months unused so I dotnthink you did anything really

Re: outdrive question

should be okay then its been warm, and its been covered to my knowledge. if water has gotten in there, is that bad? I've got a lot of learning to do. Going to have to curl up next to a fire with the service manaul to figure out a lot of stuff. I have no idea how to change the oil. Didn't know there was oil in the outdrive. ha ha.

thanks.

You should grease the u joints & inspect the input shaft for any signs of unusual wear.....
After installing the unit, there are two screws, one on the bottom front port & one towards top left port.....
Remove both screws & drain, note any metal shavings on the magnetic bottom screw.....
To refill, pump gear lube into the bottom screw hole (special pump) until it comes out of the top one.....
Replace top screw with new gasket washer......
Quickly unscrew pump & put in bottom screw with gasket....
The small amount of lube lost is irrelevant.....:)
