AHHHH, feeling the heat ... it is a rush ... nothing quite like it. Have fun, but be safe - many of our brothers have succumbed to the heat in Training. It is just as dangerous as the real deal.

I have a 16' x 26', 2 story, double walled building I would like removed.

You are welcome to use it in a training fire.

Absolutely. I took 8 weeks fire fighter academy training then without a break went right into 3 weeks of marine emergency training then 3 more of damage control. Had a week off then started navy clearance diver training for 12 weeks! I'd say the firefighting was the toughest and scariest. The whole experience almost killed me and I was 21 yrs old!

Hope your training goes well Turin!

Re: fire fighter training

Most Volunteer fire departments would love to have a building like that offered to them for Training, Roscoe. However, depending upon your area, it is getting harder to get approval to do training burns on buildings like that - too many pollutants. Check with your local Fire Department and make them a offer, they may jump at the chance. Probably will want to do it on a Saturday or Sunday and later in the fall/winter when it is a bit cooler outside.

Re: fire fighter training

Did it back in 1975 in Uncle Sams Canoe Club and even got to fight a few real flight deck fires. There was a reason I worked the flight deck. You could all ways jump over the side if things got out of hand. Instead of climbing out of a hole to get away from the fire. Now they won't even let me be a volunteer fire fighter because of my heart, but I told them they can't stop me from showing up. I belive when there is a fire its ALL HANDS ON DECK!!!....ANIMAL :D

Re: fire fighter training

totally, admire you, i have several friends, on the department here, most 2nd generation firefighters, rank from the bottom to chief. our department also has the recue department for the complete county, it was one of the departments that tested and refined the combination, fire/rescue with the EMT's. there now is an EMT on every piece of equipment in the department. also a engine responds with every bus, so there are enough people on hand to handle a rescue.

Bummer on the physical, dude! Don't give up hope, try again next year. No greater feeling or reward than putting your life on the line for others ...

Re: fire fighter training

Mike, to become a Volunteer Fire Fighter, you have to be able to breath! :)
Actually, that is true, but not true. It depends on what you want to do ... if you want to feel the heat, there will be training and time requirements. If you want to be an engineer and drive the truck, there will be training and time requirements. If you want to be fire police and help with crowd control, you are in, but then there will be training and time requirements. If you want to help in the office, or with fund raising events, bring friends! :D

But than its a bit diferent in Holland you have to become a (Brandwacht) dont know how to cal it exactly in english but it means you have to fight the fire and you just have to listen to the one above you.
and than you can do more training to become engineer or an commander or what ever .

The office isnt a volunteer job.

Re: fire fighter training

I had the chance to be hired by our city fire dep many years ago when just knowing a few firemen that liked you was about all it took. I passed it up and have regreted it since. I did retire from a county job and highly recomend a city paid job because of the JOB SECURITY it has. Unless your city is shrinking you have a secure job and wont be laid off no matter what happins to the private sector. People can be in bread lines but you wont..something to think about.
