Boat has 264 hours of salt water use. Flushed occasionally. Riser meets manifolds are a little rusty. oil is clean and temp is fine. Should the manifolds/risers be changed? Almost 900.00 in parts.

Yeah but I am already about to spend 27,000 on the boat. 98 250 Sundancer w/trailer and 264 hours. also needs exhaust bellows. price is firm at 27K

Find another boat, or make the necessary repairs BEFORE they cost you an engine and drive.

GLM's on eBay are pretty cheap and are aluminum (save about 22lbs a manifold). They also have built in exhaust runners. The closest thing to Hi Pro exhaust without the cost. ;)

is aluminum better? I was looking at aftermkt ceramic coated

Flushed occasionally?

I think I like Don's advice. If you're looking at the manifolds and risers......Just imagine it looks the same in the block and heads.

If you got the duckett's to throw out they why not but I will save mine for gas.
Also, just like toilets, always flush or you will be sorry.:D

I am curious about this as well.I like the light weight and exhaust runners on the aluminum manifolds.Do you think the exhaust will make a difference? Can aluminum hold up to the rigors of marine use?

I guess I will have to tell you all in a couple years. Mine are only 3 months old.

the boat doesn't heat up when WOT. should I change them or do most people wait until the boat runs hotter than usual?

Thermostat controls minimum temp.

Sounds like you have a "little bit of money" to spend right away.

Manifolds and risers BEFORE they fail and destroy the engine.

Full drive service, to include - bellows(all 3) raw water impeller, gimbal bearing(maybe, I would do it since you don't know history).

Thermostat

Full tune up, plugs, cap, rotor, wires(?), Fuel filter/s......

Yup. Raw water impeller was replaced. So I will need to replace manifolds, risers, bellows and possibly the gimbal bearing. But 27K for a 98 Searay is cheap. low retail is 31,900 w/out trailer and the boat has an 04 trailer. I haven't found one cheaper anywhere

RAW water cooled(SALT WATER)

I think we just figured out why the price is relatively low. Won't be too long before water passages in the block start to rot through. Unless this is in your budget in the next few years, I would still be leary of this boat.

It will take many more years for the engine block to rot away. I have yet to see one rot away from salt water. The boat itself is immaculate. I could pull the risers and they might be fine.(only 263 hours on the boat)

I've got the same year / motor (mag version) - with 109 hours on the motor.. Raw water cooled, fresh water only.. At what point do I start thinking about replacing manifolds?

In the Sweetwaters of Lake Ontario, or the St. Lawrence river where I live,+ boat,....??......

Your Grandkids might need to change them,.............. Someday..................
But,...... Probably Not...................;)
