1989 mercury 200hp

Starts good, idles good, but when i give it gas it just boggs a long and wont pick up speed, it has new plugs and fuel filters and good compression. any ideas what to check next

Try squeezing the primer bulb while trying to accelerate, if that helps put a kit in the fuel pump.
Without more history it is hard to offer solutitions.

Also try that with the cowls on and removed.
Could also just be dirty carbs that need a good cleaning. Partially blocked fuel filters and/or strainers. Decarb done recently? How long have you had the engine?

It is a fuel injected motor, Maybe dirty injectors??? can i check them or do they have to be sent out, thanks

If it were mine,
I'd have a merc dealer scan it for faults. If none were foune, I would pull the injectors and send them here for cleaning and flow testing.

Running a partially plugged injector is about the quickest way to a major overhaul I know.

I'd have a merc dealer scan it for faults. If none were foune, I would pull the injectors and send them here for cleaning and flow testing.

I took it out today to try a couple other things, when i adjusted the trim we got up to 40mph 4000rpm it took a while to get there then when i idled it down it was reving really high. thanks alot

Sounds like a fuel issue. You need to run some Chevron Techron ( in a strong mix) through the injectors. If that doen't clear it up, they will need to removed and cleaned properly before you burn a hole in a piston, then you will be in a pickle.

didn't work, Im taking it to the shop on monday so they can try to scan it, i will go from there, any idea on cost for new injectors or just cleaning.
