It might of been getting air locked, since the vent wasn't opened, when you go out the next time make sure it's opened. Also if you haven't added any fresh gas, I would get rid of the old and start with new, make sure you get the proper ratio of gas and oil mixture. I don't believe in the fuel stabilizers my self I drain the tank when I know it's going to be parked, them tanks can swet (especially metal tanks) and moisture can get in the gas. Was it putting water out of the proper areas, tell tale, and other ports like it was supposed to when you had the muffs on and running the motor? This is something that also needs to have a close eye on as this has to do with cooling system of the motor. If you haven't checked the flow of water coming from the tell tale and the ports on the under side of the cowling, I can't remember were the ports are located on your year motor. I would check it on the muffs again you don't want to burn that motor up. Just my 2 cents, bump for more input also.
