It is spring loaded. This concept is called an Air Valve Secondary. There are butterflies on the bottom plate that open with the throttle. The plates on the top will open as soon as the engine airflow overcomes the spring pressure. Notice how the pivot rod is not in the middle for the top plates. The uneven pressure on the top plate causes it to want to open.

That is a Q-jet air door. It is opened by the vacuum in the secondary barrels. The vacuum must overcome a wind-up spring.

PS: While an example picture, it looks like an auto crab.

Such as this little tid-bit of Info you've neglected to mention in your Other thread......

The way these forums are Supposed to work is,.......
You ask a Question,......
Somebody here either has an Answer,....
Or,... Asks other Questions of You, so We can follow the Diagnostics.......
This is a 2 way street,..... If you Can't help Us help You,.......
Your boat Won't get Fixed,+ in the process, You turn-off the other knowledgeable people Trying to Help You............

So far, in your Other thread,.....

Left click on your name in this post, and view all your posts.

BTW, don't assume everyone reads every thread. I had not read the earlier thread.

NO i havent fix the problem yet , i mean the other 100 problem before is fixed, i never see a boat with so much problem, i guest it is because i am restoirng it totally and i like things to be perfect , for the carbarator problem i am going to try a electronic pump with more psi , what psi that carbarator requires ? (1992 regal 233xl 5.7 mercrusier)

Too high pressure to the carb and you'll push the needles off their seats and end up with a flooded engine, which you will blame the poor (usually) innocent carb for.

q-jets can handle 9-9 PSI however try to regulate it to 5-7 PSI, the automotive version of the Q-jet wont hurt as the fuel bowl vent is still USCG compliant. only draw back is trying to cap off all the unused vacum ports without affecting carb calibration.
you MUST wire the electric pump through an oil pressure switch or a set of relays that takes an output from the terminal on the altenator that does NOT have 12v with key on engine off.
this prevents the fuel pump from running in the event of an unanticipated engine shutdown, most likly due to flooding or fire.
my suggestion would be to use the correct carb and mechanical pump and go play happily everafter.

Re: Could Someone explain the funtion of this Carbarator ?

Ok i take the boat out again , and i have the same problem , its not low fuel pressure , cabarator revs out fine, but when trying to accelerate , the engine wants to shut off , its more like cant go in hi speed , this is a tough one i need to do this properly, in the caymans the beach is great , but we have reefs and channel that we must be careful off and your boat have to be in good conditions, just to let you all know Stingray city here is a paradise, anyway the water that is coming in is coming right over shaft that pass through the gimbal bearing , and it is running like a pipe , bilge pump kicks in every 20 minutes, i dont see a tear on the rubber so i dont know where to start can some one point me where ?

As about your carb problem, i had similar problem ,i haven't fixed it yet because i have to pull the boat out once more, but after much searching i conclude that my problem is the exhaust pipe and the flaps inside it.i think that the coggled pipe prevents the carb from breathing properly (thus the buterfly you are talking about doesn't open ).Don't forget to send us the solution when you fix it

I forgot to mention that in the case of coggled exhaust pipe you should also notice higher temperature when driving for some minutes at the maximum possible speed since the water circulation would be also affected.

i have good Temperature, and the boat do not plane off, the back of the boat is still in the water while the front is up, someone say the engine might be Governed, where should i look for these possibilities?
