Problem

Took my boat to the lake today to run it. It ran real good after I replaced the plugs this week. But one time after I ran it pretty hard and then switched it off and then cranked it back up the "water temp." light came on. So I checked to see if I had water coming out the back and I did. So I let it sit for a few min. and cranked it back up and the light was gone. When I got home I noticed some oil running down the foot so I took the cover off and noticed that my oil tank was alot more full than it was before I left. Yes, gas/oil mixture in the oil tank. What is causing that? Also, the little aluminum square thing that sets right in front of the motor with wires coming out of it got hot enough that the stuff inside (brown looking sticky resin)stared running out. Hope it didn't mess anything up in the motor.Need some help!

Re: Problem

Don't you think it would help for us to know what engine (year, model, HP, etc) you have?

Re: Problem

i hope you didn't either, my take is your VRO pump went, on the oil side, fuel side pumping gas into oil side, ran hot because of no oil getting to motor.

Re: Problem

Ok thats the little pump right below the oil tank right? If so I guess I need a repair kit? Also If I decide to get rid of the oil injection what would I have to do even if the pump is bad?

Re: Problem

I wonder where I can find out. Also I wonder if I did any damage to my motor and how would I be able to tell if I did? And why didn't the "NO OIL" alarm come on?

Re: Problem

Go to the BRP Parts catalog site and find your motor so that we will be on the same page. The description of the parts is unfamiliar.

http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=e

If the oil tank you have is like the one in the thumbnail, it is an accumix system and you can disable it for premix pretty much as you would a VRO.

Re: Problem

Do you want to premix, or fix the system? It is supposed to cut off the gasoline if the oil stops. The faiilsafe is mix it yourself.

The overheat horn should have sounded.

What is the part that melted?

Good shop practice is to replace the cylinder head gasket when your engine overheats. Failing that, at least check the compression and retorque the cylinder head bolts.

Probably premix. The overheat horn did sound and I let it cool off and then was able to make it back to the landing without it coming back on. The REGULATOR/RECTIFIER got a little warm but dont know if it messed it up.

Re: Problem

Check the rectifier by putting a voltmeter on the battery with the engine off. Take a reading. Start the engine and take another reading. If the reading with the engine running is higher, the rectifier is charging OK. If you have a tachometer and it is working, that's even better.

There is a plastic manifold leading to your fuel pump(s). Disconnect the line running to it from the accumix and connect the fuel line from the gas tank in its place after pumping enough to bring the premix through the fuel line. Use 50:1 100% Synthetic TCW-3 oil.

The accumix would be 12 years old by now, and if it has not been serviced it is not surpising that it failed.

Re: Problem

I will try all of this when I get home. If you don't mind I will want to get back with you later. If at all possible I would like to remove(well I already have to drain out gas) the oil tank, lines, and vro completely. Thanks again.

Re: Problem

There is a line running from the fuel pump on the stbd. side thru the in-line filter to the top of the vro. Can I just connect this line to the one that comes out of the vro going to the plastic manifold so that I can keep the filter? Then where do I unhook the alarm wires for the vro?

Re: Problem

The picture shows one setup. If mine were like that, I would just remove the accumix and connect the two hoses.

Your engine filter should be on the engine side of the primer hose.

Re: Problem

Unhooked the VRO and hooked everything back up, started trying to crank it and it cranked in about 2 seconds(its never done that) even though I had all the lines unhooked. So maybe I lucked up and did not do any damage to the motor...ran pretty good. Thanks for all the help
