Hello folks. I need some support here as I am very paranoid at the moment.
I bought my first boat last summer and winterized it in September. I did everything I needed to ie. changed engine oil and leg oil. Stabilized fuel and fogged the engine. I lastly drained all the water from the engine, poured RV antifreeze through the engine via waterpump hoses and filled it up with antifreeze. I did this twice to make sure all that was in the engone was RV antifreeze. Well the low tonight is -45C where I live. I am sweating bullets that I will have a cracked block or manifold. Do you folks think that I will have any troubles?

I have a 4.3L Merc I/O
Thanks

I might be worried. First is you RV stuff good to -45, I see a lot on the market good to -30C? Perhaps you would might put a tarp "tent" around it and run a small heater in there to be on the safe side. I am sure some ideas will come up from those who are storing in the real cold areas.

The RV antifreeze is rated to -50C. I set a bottle of it outside to see what it will do. It us currently iced but not solid. I can still squish the bottle.

Mano has a good idea any extra heat such as heat lamp, block heater or such would not hurt

Yup! it's -45C here to. You'll be fine. As long as anti freeze is in all the system. It will not freeze solid just go mushy. If you feel you need a little extra insurance so you can sleep nights. Just put a 40 watt bulb next to the greatest mass of system.

It'll probably be OK. If you are worried, a trouble light or 2 low in the engine compartment will raise the temp considerably.

The leg, if it is down, drains completely. The only other problem would be water in the gear oil, which you covered by changing it.

Rest easy.

That is wrong. Where did you hear that? If it freezes it will crack some thing some where whether you turn it over or not.

Don't need an I V. It's a water glass of Jack Daniels outside in front of a roaring fire in the fire pit. 4' high tarps strung around to keep wind out. A thick cushion on my lawn chair to keep my butt warm. Snow suit on and watching the satilites go by. Man thats livin.

Sweating bullets when it is -45C cannot be comprehended by an AZ boy like myself. Come enjoy the sunshine and a little Super Bowl action.
