I am about to purchase a 1989 Raven by Tradewinds 22.5 cuddy,Mercruiser 165hp.I/O 3.7LITER 224cid 4cyl 470.I am a little nervous because I am not sure that the engine is good enough or strong enough for this size boat,anybody with any thoughts before I drop $5000 would be helpful???

Ayuh,............ Don't Do It.........

The notorious 470 was the Biggest Blunder ever by Mercruiser.....
It's a Quirky motor, with No Easy Upgrades.....

I'm sure no I/O expert but I always thought the 165 was a straight 6.
But anyway I would say your at the bottom end hp.If you just plan to cruise, fish and maybe wake board you should be ok.but if your going to load up 5 or 6 and gear then try to ski i think you'll be dissapointed.

5k is about $4500 too much. Find another boat with a 4.3 or a v8 would be even better in that size range.

I'm sure no I/O expert but I always thought the 165 was a straight 6.

It was when they made the inline six, which disappeared long before 1989.
