Re: walmart oil ?

Good to know that I aint the only one that has thought about putting that in the LU, I have a quart sitting here waiting to be used from walmart. I believe we are talking about Super Tech right? Or are we talking about outboard 2 cycle oil?

Canman, What's not to like about Wally's oil. It's TCW-III, it's the cheapest and it's blue! Blue is a real boating color!

I get my tc-w3 fully synthetic Penzoil at Walmart. $23 a gallon and it's biodegradable. It's worth the extra few $$$.

Re: walmart oil ?

Hmmm, Doesn't sound like that good of a deal to me. I don't know if it's gone up any, but just after the new year I bought 2, 1 gallon jugs of Johnson 2 cycle oil from Walmart for 23.99 a piece. Wasn't that much more than their brand and I was told (I know, you can't believe all you hear) that I should use Johnson/Evinrude oil with the VRO as the other oils met the standards but were thicker and didn't do as well unless you were actually mixing. Either way...

What is the full synthetic called in the Super Tech or Pennzoil brands? I always see the synthetic blend at walmart.

What year is your 140? The ones from the late 70's should be run with no less than 92 octane. They had tighter heads with the stuffers in them along with the turtleback exhaust(bubble back). If it's one of the high compression models I would only run the best gas and perhaps synthetic in it.Ask Monty at montyracing.com what he thinks. He's the best!

Re: walmart oil ?

The regular TCW3 Gallon is all I use. Can't beat the 9.00 per jug. My Wally world is stocked to a heavy populated urban area, so the synthetic blend is not available here.

Besides the fact we don't like to send folks to other places for things we have experts here for....FYI, the late 70's 140, is just an up-to 1998 115 in the crossflow series. Yes, the 70's 140 is the same as a post 85-86 115 with the bubble back.
Anything higher than 89 Octane is totally un-needed, and causes more problems than it reduces by running anything higher.
The Tightest heads were 1973 135hp but that's not what makes power...efficient cumbustion is...the heads were later designed to have better "Flow patterns", not higher compression.
!00% or blended syn. is NOT needed in these engines requiring TC-W3.

Re: walmart oil ?

I've been buying my 2-stroke oil at Wally World for years. My brand is Pennzoil Premium Plus, which is a synthetic blend TC-W3 oil. I've run it in my "50:1 motors" at that ratio, and have run a pair of 1958 Evinrude Bigtwins on it extensively at 50:1 with no problems.

I buy it in the 2.5 gallon jug and the last price I paid was a bit under $34.00. I usually buy two jugs at a time and fill recylcled 500ml spring water bottles with enough oil for a 50:1 mix for 6 gallons of gas. This has been a great system for me because it makes measurement easy and its very convenient to grab a few bottles on the way to refuel. I fill up, add the appropriate amount of oil and throw the empties in the trash.

Re: walmart oil ?

Walmart TCW3 oil is NMMA certified and manufactured for Walmart by Shell. Any oil that has the NMMA certification has passed NMMA independent testing will be okay. It is decent quality for a good price.

Here is a link to what was NMMA approved in 2007:
http://www.nmma.org/certification/programs/oils/registeredoil.asp?y=TCW32007&s=Registrant

Here is the link for 2008:
http://www.nmma.org/certification/programs/oils/registeredoil.asp?y=TCW32008

Interestingly no Shell manufactured oils, including Walmart's are on the 2008 list.

Re: walmart oil ?

Just a tip for those of us that premix - those that have oil injection may already know. I found out yesterday that I can buy the OMC/BRP premium syn blend at my dealer in bulk for $13.00 per gallon. All I have to do is to show up with a suitable container (I'm going to go buy a small gas can and mark "2-Stroke Oil Only" on it) and he will fill it from a 55 gallon drum. Since the price I will be getting is a little bit less than what I have been payng for the Pennzoil at Wally World, I'm going to switch sources. I really like this situation because my OMC/BRP dealer is always helpful and provides a great deal of advice even when I am not buying something. Now I have another cost effective reason to give him all of the business that I can!

Re: walmart oil ?

Just so we don't get too far out on a limb about what Shell has and does not have as far as ratings, Shell owns Pennzoil and Nautica, Nautilus and a few other labels on the list. And that link is just the 2 stroke side, check the four stroke list.
