I don't remember any of his movies, but I do remember him as president of the NRA. He was a real man's man (and I don't mean that the way it's used in the media today, so let me clarify, he was a straight man's man).

As far as "political" figures go, I'll miss him 2nd most out of those who have passed on in my lifetime. The first being Reagan of course.

That's particularly sad news to me, as I have admired him greatly for so many years. I don't usually keep anything like autographs and such but I did receive a signed picture of him once and still have it in my important stuff box. He most definitely made the kind of movies a person could watch over and over again and never get tired of 'em. He also made a huge effort to protect the rights of all Americans. A real hero to me. One of the few people in hollywood I would like to have met in person just to shake his hand. I liked his voice, too. He was a very special person.
Very sad,
JBJ:(

.. Hi Sgt, if ya get a chance rent some of his films, great stuff! I think his last role was a brief but good one in Tomstone(Kurt Russel one). Here is a nice brief summary to a full life:

Yeah, he'll be missed.

Planet of the Apes, and Soylent Green were two others among the many. He did several narrations too, with that distinct voice of his.

Anyway, Peace be with You Mr. Heston.

Yea, his voice, his presence, he just had a aura about him that commanded respect. Our country will definitely miss him ... his acting, his voice of reason ... Mr. Heston, sir, you will be sorely missed.

I'm sure you've seen one or two of his movies.
My favorites would be Midway, Ben Hur, Soylent Green, The Ten Commandments, Planet of the Apes, Grey Lady Down & The Omega Man.

His entire filmography is here http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000032/
