Darn, I used the pills, and got down to 6 cigs a day, backslide (construction super- pressure, still no excuse) . It wasn't that bad at 6 a day.
We just need to say, finally- the hell with this. and go broke on candy.
My fil rotted all his teeth out with butterscotch, but he lived long.

Good eve!

For what it's worth to both of you, when you get tired of it, you'll quit. Period.

Smoked for 35 yrs. Pack to 1-1/2 a day. Went to work on something in the shop one day 5 yrs. ago and saw that I had 2 and needed to go to the store.

WHAT?! NEEDED TO? I THINK NOT!!

I'M TIRED of everytime I get ready to do something, I HAVE to make sure it's OKEEDOKEE with the Marlboro man if I can start doing my day uninterrupted. B.S.!!

Gave those two to a friend (I know, GD the pusher man!) and all is well. No sinus probs in the spring anymore, yaddayadda, you know the drill.

Got to tell you tho, never phased me. Don't want'em, Don't miss 'em, I can be in the smokiest bar you can find and doesn't bother me in the least. Care less.

Just a habit w/ me. Nicotine addiction? Road apples!! That's also B.S. to me to insure that more cigs/hypnotists/patches/yaddayadda get in the game. I set that pack down and never looked back once. No encouragement. "Yeah, do it man, go for it!" none of that. Just put them down.

When you get tired of screwing around w/all of the above, YOU WILL QUIT SCREWING AROUND W/ALL OF THE ABOVE!!

I've heard it's hard on some. They aren't tired of it.
I've heard some go back. They aren't tired of it.
I've seen some do the above over and over. They aren't tired of it.

I've been all three of the above at some point in time because of, guess what?

Best to all that do make it as it is the best to all that do make it.

No offense to those that don't, as I said, doesn't bother me

Cold turkey is the way to quit for good. The stress will still be there whether you smoke or not.

No, I don't get those thoughts any more, but it's been 21 years since I smoked a cigarette.

Back before the "pill", desire was all that we had to help quit.

I probably "quit" smoking 50 times or more before I did for good. Once it was half a day, another time it was well over a year.

It was both very tough and very simple. Maybe went for days, then all of the sudden, "hey I want a smoke". If I screwed up an bought a pack, the other 19 got flushed down the toilet (where they belong).

Just quit and keep quitting, until you quit for good.

You family and friends will be proud of you and just as importantly, you will be proud of yourself.

Hang in there.

I smoked for 6 years before quitting cold turkey about a year and a half ago. I had "tried to quit" a few times prior, but this time I really had made up my mind to quit, and you know what? It didn't bother me in the least bit to quit. No "withdrawls" no looking back, and if anything, I felt less stressed out.

By the way, you're not "quitting" because you already quit. All you have to do now is not start back up again. :)

I have quit several times myself. All at different lengths of time. The last time was over three years ago, I quit for 6 months. I was doing really good. I met my wife close to the 6 month mark,... she smokes,... within 2 weeks I was smoking again. No good.:(

It has been 9 months for me and I am still doing good. This is what I did. I went cold turkey for the first week, chewed the heck out of chewing gum. On the second week, I bought a pack and only smoked one per day. I make sure it stayed in the truck at all time, not in the house or in my pocket. I only smoked one cig on the way home from work. In between time, I chewed lot of gums. Keeped fruits and healthy snacks in the house and subtitued them for after meals smoke. That last pack lasted almost 3 weeks so the last few were really nasty. After the last one was gone, I haven't touch another one since. Good luck.

As someone who has patients ask all day what they can do to quit smoking, I often have to ask the big question. Do you REALLY want to? If you do not have the absolute desire to quit then no product will ever accomplish what you are trying to do. I have patients who are determined to quit and Chantix is a great product for them when they are tyring to get over that initial hump. I have also had people who say they wanted to quit only to fail miserabley because the really did not want to. Cold turkey is great, I think that it is more the mindset that they are determined to quit than anything else. Best of luck to anyone who makes that choice. It is not easy, just remember that you have to fail before you can succeed. If you are going to switch to candy or gum then use sugarless and you will not have the problems with rotting your teeth out either. Good Luck!

Re: arghhhh quitting smoking, sorry, just bugging me...

I have enough pressure put on me by everyday life and puffing 40 times a day didn't help, it just added to it. I figured that if 40 or so smokes a day didn't make me the calmest or the most satisfied guy on earth, what the heck am I doing? Just increasing the thought of the big "C" with each drag, and always looking for where or when I can have the chance to light-up.

Decide what YOU want to do and just do it. If you want to smoke - do it, if you want to quit, quit. You don't need someone or SOMETHING telling you what to do. Whatever you decide, do it for yourself, you deserve it.

Finally I threw that monkey off my back. That was many years ago and I ain't letting it back.

Best of luck to you,
Nick

I've been smoke free for 6 months and ten days. I used the Chantix in the beginning. Worked for me. I still feel that I have to make the decision to quit every day. My answer always comes out to "yes, I do". The improvements in breathing , taste, sense of smell are great reinforcers.

On the negative side, I have added 1" to my waist and 15lbs. I also am somewhat addicted to sugar free BreathSavers.

The good news is the longer you go without smoking, the less the chance of ever going back.

Re: arghhhh quitting smoking, sorry, just bugging me...

It's been over 21 years since I had my last, and 20 years of smokin' 'em before that. I'd tried many times but always seemed to backslide. Finally went to SmokeStoppers, and that did the trick for me.

I really had to change my routine the first couple of weeks. I drank so much water I think I floated to the john, but then I got out of my office and walked around the department more than ever. If I'd had to stay with the same routine, it would have been much harder.

Now even having to walk through smokers outside the office building door bothers me.

Re: arghhhh quitting smoking, sorry, just bugging me...

YOU CAN DO IT. DO IT NOW. Oh, sorry to yell. I smoked for 20 years. Have been smoke free for 10. I quit cold turkey. I did not want my kids saying, well Dad smokes, so it's okay. Plus a good buddys brother had just died from lung cancer and he was a smoker too. This was my inspiration. But remember, wahtever anyone writes here, or tells you, the desire and intent to quit and not go back, has to come from you. Nobody else. You have to want to quit. I just knew it was my time, in all honesty, it was not as hard as I thought. One hour at time became one day at a time became on week at a time etc.

You can do it. I know you can because I did. But YOU have to want to quit.
That was my experience anyway.

Re: arghhhh quitting smoking, sorry, just bugging me...

I went on Chantix (Champix in Canada). Was 2 packs a day (50 cigs in Canada) and after the first week had ZERO chemical cravings for one. Took another week to get over physically having to have one thing but was down to 3 a day and now it's been 3 weeks without and I feel great!

It's not easy but it's not hard either. If you need help get help! I had someone at work quit along side of me (my smoking buddy), she wanted to quit so we're each others support system at work and instead of going for a smoke now, we go for walks. Being we were the only two smokers there helps too, everyone keeps asking lol

Good luck, you can do it!

Re: arghhhh quitting smoking, sorry, just bugging me...

I had been smoking for about 60 years when I stopped (notice I don't say quit) last March.

The last ten years or so I was smoking 5 or 6 a day but never smoked a whole one. My theory was that I would get only the minimum nicotine my body required, then put it out. I would relight it an hour or two later, take two or three puffs, then put it out again.

Thus my nicotine addiction was reduced to a bare fraction of the "pakaday" level.

I liked smoking and didn't want to quit, until. . . .

Texas raised the tax by another buck a pack, almost doubling the price of the mini-cigars I favored.

When the clerk at "Just Smokes" told me that something clicked, CLICK!!. I said, "I don't like smoking that much".

End of story.
