The key is WANTING to quit. If you're not at that point yet, nothing will help. If you're on the edge, try sitting down and writting a list of pro's and con's of smoking. Sounds dumb I know, but it might finally push you over to the really wanting to. Especially when you start considering the influence your smoking may have on your son, and how it may limit your time to spend with him in the long run.

If you are already at that point. Go for it. I'll be pulling for you.

Funny to see this topic come up again. I stopped smoking again on the 21st.

The patch worked wonders for me. Quit for over 2 months and had very little in the way or cravings. Got to the end of the cycle of patches and started smoking again within about a week.:(

It's a work in progress for me. As others mentioned, it's all about your mindset and wanting to quit. I liked the response with "not being tired of it yet". That's pretty much it. YOU have to truly want to quit or you will just find one reason or another to smoke again.

Good luck to ya!

My last cig is coming april 30th. Im done, I have been preparing myself for this all month.

I am also going to put money in a jar everyday for the pack of smoke i would have bought. At my 1 yr anny Im going to buy myself whatever it is I want at the time.

I work to hard for money to be blowing it out of my lungs everyday!

Good Luck to everyone, I know we can do it;)

I'm 46 and been dippin Copenhagen for 30 years. I've got 7 year old twins to raise and realized I wasn't doing enough to ensure I'd be there for them. My dad died at 54 after 4 years of fighting a brain tumor. Numbers don't look great for me, but I felt like I needed to do all I could.

I finally WANTED to quit so I did. I haven't had a dip since Sept. of last year. I just needed to convince myself it was what I needed to do and eventually, when I WANTED to quit I did. Cold turkey. I still had a half a can in my pocket when I quit. I still could still get a dip today, but I'm keeping my mind right.

It is a challenge, but I encourage everybody to give it up. I kept saying I wanted to see all of my kids make it past 40 and be a benefit to 'em, but that probably wasn't going to happen if I didn't change. Making it to 80 these days is really common, but not taking care of yourself and you'll limp the last 15-20 years, and that won't be a benefit to anyone.

My 2 cents.

While on a cart in the ER on January 8th the cardiologist wanted to know when I quit smoking before he took me into the cath lab to put in a stent.

Heart attack was a big enough scare for me at 51. Used Chantix in the beginning. Downside is I substituted food for cigs and have gained a bit of weight. Friends tell me that will stop eventually.
