Can ya give a little more detail? Nothing as in zippo?.......if so maybe a bad battery, loose or corroded battery connections. Try removing and wire brushing all wire connections to relays, fuses, etc. Sitting all winter in a moist atmosphere will form a skin of corrosion on connectors so they won''t make good connection.

Make sure the deck is up and its not in gear and that you are sitting in the seat. There are kill switches to prevent it from starting .

Yup! and some have one on the brake and won't start unless the peddle is pushed down or the park brake is on.

Re: lawn tractor

Don't forget about the low oil sensor. If the motor cranks over and no start - pull the plug to check for spark,,,,,If you got spark - open the drain plug on the bowl of the carb. The float maybe stuck preventing fresh gas entering the carb. Sometimes tapping on the bowl is enough to dislodge the needle float valve. If not, remove the bowl (take care not to damage the gasket. Pull down on the float if it is stuck in the up position for shutting the fuel off. If you have gas and spark, check the oil level and or bypass the sensor to determine if it was it. If it still doesn't start, hold you thumb/finger over the spark plug hole (make sure you don't come in contact with the plug wire) ,,,,it should blow some compression against your finger. If it has lost its compression,,,could be rings stuck or a valve stuck that is not closing.

If it doesn't crank,,,then start checking all the safeties such as the seat, blade, shifter, clutch/brake, and even the switch that is surpose to disengage the blade when put into reverse.

Good Luck,,,,,,,,,,SS

^^^ That or trash in the carb/stuck float. Fuel pump/diaphragm. I'm not too sure on the latter.

Re: lawn tractor

1. Does it have a choke cable? Is it hooked up and closing the choke?

2. Is the gas tank metal or plastic? Metal ones tend to pick up rust.

3. Can you get tha carb off easy...... I bet it is clogged and full of gunk.... a can of spray carb cleaner and a bit of detailed work will clean it up but those small carbs have small parts and even smaller passeges that get blocked.

4. Did you Stabil the gas before you stored it? Could be poor gas.

5. Change the fuel filter.... they are about $1.99 for the small plastic see thru ones at a parts store.

1. ya i had to full around with the choke to get it go.

2. plastic

3. i dont know how to get to them i have pictures tho.

4. i drained the gas out of the tank before i stored it so now its brand new gas.

5. the gas was running fine thru the filter.. should i still get a new one.. i dont mind getting it just wondering

Re: lawn tractor

It appears as if your choke cable is out of adjustment.....
other people will chime in but it looks like the cable casing has been moved and you might not get full choke.

That filter looks old and If it were me..... I would replace it.

Based on what little I can see..... I would use Sea Foam in the carb and spryed into the fuel line...... let it sit and then try again. I see corrosion on the outsides so the insides may be gunked up too.

Re: lawn tractor

yah the cable is moved. we made it loose so that we could move it easily to try and get it to start... thats the reason why you see it like that... ill try that stuff tomor and see what i get .. thanks
