we use to keep gas cans full, for construction equipment, keep having a theft problem, we move the cans to a different place for storage, and replace them with others, that had 5 pounds of sugar added to the gas. for some reason one of the neighbors kids, car had a major problem with the engine.

Great way to stop a thief. :D

Love the story I really enjoy it when the criminals get what they deserve. Glad the guys boat was not damaged.:)

Musta been more than just gas and sugar in that can.:D. Sugar doesn't dissolve in gas and won't cause engine damage because all it's going to do is lay in the bottom of the tank.

Great idea! I wonder if kayro syrup would desolve better than sugar. Anything that will ruin the engine they try to burn it in...maybe some old motor oil mixed in also then the car smokin like an old time steam engine would be the one who took your gas..

Rest assured , Karo is highly recomended as a fuel treatment on vehicles you want very dead , very quickly .
The only thing more destructive is a pint of liquid styrene in the crankcase , or , a few ounces of lapidary grit , commonly used in tumbling stones .
Fine sand will work almost as well....

Pure denatured alcohol does some amazing things , as it is hygroscopic .
A gallon or so in the tank will mix with any water in the bottom of the tank , then , mix with the gas .
It can cause a lot of rough idle , stalling , loss of power type issues , untill it has passed .
By the time the car gets to a mechanic , the problem has mysteriously disapeared .

Just as bad is a few gallons of diesel or kerosene added to the cars tank (unless of course it IS diesel engine..) .
Also , most 4 stroke motors do not like 50:1 2 stroke premix .

I'd say the world is probably safe from those 2 evil masterminds , even if they are not safe from thier own shared braincell .... ;)

Severe corrosion and complete failure of the fuel system and the motor .
Put that mix into contact with aluminum , or , many oxidizers such as potassium permagnate , sodium hypochlorite , etc ... , and you have a firebomb at the least .
DO NOT INTRODUCE SUGAR INTO THIS MIX !

Sulfuric acid and aluminum by themselves are a runaway reaction waiting to happen .

Drain cleaner such as Liquid Plumber would do similiar damage , and , the old Red Devil Lye is usefull for much more than clearing clogged plumbing . ;)

I'm not sure about the battery acid and gas, I'd be worried that might spontaneously explode, but those are all some great ideas. I love it. Even with today's gas prices it's worth it.

Re: A theives stealing gas from boat story with a happy ending.

Fifty to one in the gas tank won't pack up an engine unless the catalytic converter is especially (sp) sensitive. Sugar in the gas is an old wives tale and if denatured is bad then all of the ethinol mixes are destruction on the loose as they are "denatured alcohol".

I spent way to many hours in the lab trying to destroy gas engines to fall for these tales.

Now if you want to ruin a gas engine, put polypropylethelene glycol (common antifreeze) in the oil or the gas tank. Treatolite ( a down hole gel known in the oil production states) in the oil is almost undectable in small amounts.

The grinding compound in the oil is another good one. Insurance companies hire universities to find out devious means.

Ain't it marvelous that we are basically an honest group here in the States yet?

Gee, you guys sure have spent a lot of time figuring out how to destroy someone's motor! I never knew that I was hangin around with a bunch delinquents! :D

PS: I have run 50:1 premix in an automobile as an emergency measure a couple of times. I wouldn't recommend putting a bunch in the tank but a gallon or so just to get to the next gas station didn't hurt anything. I suppose an oil change afterwards might not be a bad idea but I didn't do it. Frankly, the amount of two stroke oil that might have mixed with the regular oil would have been minimal and I do oil changes at 3,000 mile intervals, so I wasn't too worried.

LOL No.... not at all, we just spend a lot of time thinking about how to make theives pay for their crimes, even if you can't catch them. See? It sounds MUCH better when you phrase it like that. :D

I agree with jay_merrill. I stole a couple of gallons of gas myself as a teenager. If you don’t want your gas stolen, lock it up, don't create more damage than is caused. I kind of believe in karma, one day someone will steal the gas they need. Fun discussion though.

I'd nominate them for the 3 stooges award - an they probably can't count , so I'd expect them to accept! We got lowlife stealing gas + deisel by drilling holes into the tank round here ! Now that would tick me off...... :redface:p.s. If I've done /said anything to make any of you NICE people upset-please tell me !! NO WAY do i want any of you mad at me!:D:D

The dude used a cigarette lighter for light to glance into his gas container and see how much room he had left?

Yea, this dude won't live much longer. No need to put sugar in his tank, he won't even live to find out about it.
