Motor #1 - title says 1975 but plate w/ model # seems to be missing. Runs well after shop tune-up, but prop shaft leaks lube and need to reseal LU.
1. LU came off easy, but can you confirm part numbers for 1. impeller/kit and 2. lower unit seal kit (MarineEngine.com and Iboats seem to miss listing for 1974 to 1975?).
2. What gear lube gaskets do I use on the drain and vent plugs?
Motor #2 - (bought as back up/spare), Model 557HC, which I take is a 1971. Got it running briefly, but water drained out of LU before gear oil. I discon. shift shaft and took off 4 nuts but someone must have used too much thread lock, as I cant get bolts out or tap lower unit to drop. Is this common/possible?
1. Should I be able to swap this LU onto Motor #1? It looks identicle as shaft length seems the same? One difference, the water intake on this LU is not a grate opening type like on Motor #1. It must take water in through two 1/8" holes on LU housing, yes? I wasn't sure where to put the water muffs onto this unit.
2. How do I try and drop the LU, heat? PB blaster doesn't seem to help.
3. These appear to be what the manual calls "D type", with 2 piece LU, is that right? If so, does the lower unit seal kit come with the gasket between the two parts of the lower? If not, where can I get it?
Sorry so long, I really appreciate answers to the above questions.
