Hello,

Engine was fully rebuilt last year, starter rebuilt also and working great, battery fully charged and ignition switch brand new. Engine was running great when I stopped it for a little swim. When trying to start it back, nothing. No clicking besides choke (push to choke). Absolutely no reaction when turning the key. Any idea? Solenoid?

Thanks

Richard

Was the starter safety switch cap on? That thing still gets me every now and then! lol

If you mean the plastic safety stop knob that goes with the key, yes, it is on.

Check the wires on the back of the kill switch for corrosion, although you have the lanyard clip connected it may not be making contact due to corrosion at the screw terminals or the switch may have gone bad.

Re: 1990 Force 90 HP starting problem

If you look on the starboard side of the engine where the fuel line and control cables enter, you will see below the bottom carb an brown micro-switch with a small white button. The shift linkage MUST depress this button to enable the starter motor to turn (neutral interlock)

Force cables are a Goofy system and tend to have a bit of slop in them. Sometimes this slop causes the shift linkage to not be centered when the control handle is straight up in the neutral position. Fast cure is to cycle the handle through neutral, forward and reverse back to neutral. with the hood off, watch the position of the lever which depresses the white button and be sure it is actually depressing it.

A quick check while on the water, would be to jump the positive battery red wire on the solenoid (Not the red from the solenoid to the starter) to the small yellow wire This will actuate the solenoid and thus actuate the starter motor if the battery is fully charged and the starter is in working condition.

Fixed... Frank was right, goofy cables and bad adjustment on switch.

Thanks a lot
