Finally we have the right to protect ourselves, property, and vehicles without being liable to the would be suspect. . Won't be in effect for 90 days, but it is here now. Hopefully this will decrease the many home invasions that have been going on.

Here are the key words to keep you out of jail.....

I feared for my life and there was no escape...... so I fired!

I feared for the life of ___________ and had no choice and I fired!

Do yourself a favor and read up on "deadly force" and when it is applied.

Law or no law...... you will go to jail (not collect $200 ;) )if you do the wrong thing.

Re: Ohio has Castle Law now

I've been reading up on it. They have changed a provision that you can have a gun in your glovebox or center console of your car. It has to be unloaded but the ammo can be within reach. It was it had to be locked in the glovebox and the ammo in the trunk or vice versa. I'm a bit surpirsed that this doctrine has passed with all the other stuff being taken away or made more strict to protect the criminal. Hopefully the lowlifes will be a bit more hesitant in their profession or get a real job :D

I'm wondering if this would pertain to a boat as well. Haven't seen anything regarding boats yet. Guess I'll hammer the keyboard some more and find out.

OC laws typically only require the gun to be 2 steps from firing (i.e. loaded but no round in the chamber with the safety on is 2 steps from firing because you have to release the safety and chamber a round before you can fire)... is it really so bad in Ohio that you had to be like, what 12 steps from firing? Step one, open glove box, step 2 retrieve gun, step 3 get out and expose yourself to be shot by whomever is trying to carjack you, step 4, kindly ask the carjacker if you can retrieve your ammunition from the trunk of your vehicle before they steal it or shoot/stab you. Step 5 attempt to call 911 on the cell phone that the car jacker is now stealing from you, too. step 6, have your loved ones go down to the morgue to identify your body. step 7, have your loved ones pick out a casket for you. step 8, well, you get the idea.

That's just crazy. Anyway, the new castle laws won't do anything to curb your home invasion problems... only higher gun ownership rates will do that. Castle laws don't really do a whole lot to increase gun ownership rates, they just better protect those who already are owners.

I think it will protect the homeowner from stupid lawsuits that could be generated by the criminal if they get injuried.

Proscutors don't like the idea of this law. They say that it opens the door for the criminals that deal drugs to shoot when a deal goes bad. I say "Oh Well" .......

Welcome to the OC / CC club. :D

The CC laws did do much to tide the crime in most areas, but it sure is helping to think the idiots down...:D

I'd say once a month, you hear about someone shooting a buglar or bad guy. I still love the one about the 80 something grandma that took a shotgun to a 19 YO that was burglaring her house. She warned the guy, he didn't leave, started to come after her and she let him have it and left a big hole in him.

Grandma went to the hospital with a broken shoulder that would take a year to heal and she says.... It hurt him worse than it hurt me, at least I will get to heal my wound.:D

Use factory ammo. If you load your own you can be made to look bloodthirsty. I once went camping alone deep in the Adirondacks. Took my 9mm with me. Out of nowhere comes this guy in full camo yelling "you're an a--hole". He'd disappear and emerge from another spot an yells "you're an a--hole". He did this about five times then disappeared for good. I thought about reaching for my pistol but never did. He wasn't armed as far as I could tell. Pulling a gun on someone is not an easy thing to do. I packed up my stuff the next morning (it was too late to leave when this happened) and left with my tail between my legs. Promised myself that when I got to the parking area his tires were going flat. No other vehicles in the lot except mine and this is the only access trail. Weird.

OC??? Is that obsessive compulsive?:D

Don't mix criminal with civil. What might not be a criminal offense could still open you to a gigazillion dollar civil lawsuit by the survivors.

I have a Concealed Weapons permit, and use it everyday. I can carry the gun pretty much anywhere as most of the stores around here took down the signs baring them after no one got in a shoot out over the last mr. pibb at stores that allowed them. No castle law in MO so if you shoot make sure yours is the only story that is told (not my advise, my instructor's). Even with the castle law shooting a human is full of liability and almost every one in the jury is going to see some "gun nut" shot someone. Too bad, I hope Mr Glock never sees daylight when I am carrying but if it does i guess i had better make sure it is all on the up and up. Kansas just started allowing people to take them in to bars which is just a headline waiting to happen.

OC = Open Carry, or in my case, like you say, obsessive compulsive to conceal carry. :D

You are right, we are talking about Jail and being broke the rest of your life. But many of us here in Texas wouldn't award and looser any.... Never mind, I better not say that. I see the looser juries doing all kids of stupid crap all the time.

I'm glad that some folks are understanding the difference between criminal courts and civil courts. While these laws put you in a much better position in terms of criminal problems if you have to shoot someone, you can bet you're going to get sued. Someone will say that poor little Johnny, who has a rap sheet a mile long, is simply misunderstood and wasn't really walking up your stairs to kill you, rape your wife and steal everything you own - he just wanted someone to discuss the Saints chances of ever winning a Superbowl!

Sadly, the Saints have a better chance of doing that than you will in avoiding some sort of settlement.

'if you have to shoot someone" about says it all. Look at the scrutiny Law Enforcement goes through after a shooting. Can you imagine the ordeal the average citizen would encounter? Using lethal force would not be an easy decision to make.

Even if you lost a gagillion dollar lawsuit... you wouldn't necessarily be broke the rest of your life... it's called... "Judge, I can afford to pay about $20 per month..."

Just because they win a suit against you, doesn't mean they get to collect all at once... especially if you have an even slightly sympathetic judge.

Far less than law enforcement does, I assure you. They are held to a higher standard because they are professionals in dealing with criminals. The average citizen on the other hand, can have reasonable fear for his or her life even if the asailant is unarmed.

The parks and state lands are where the homeless have moved into.
