OKAY so tonight was the maiden voyage of the cheetah and i have a couple questions, if anyone can just answer one it will be great...

1. What is correct WOT rpm range in water from a 3.0 merc?

2. What is a estimated top speed, 19 foot?

3. Is there a way i can adjust the tilt/trim to get a better cruising mph rpm combo?

4. And what is a possibility to why it stalled after 20 mins on the lake, pulling up the dock, putting in reverse for a sec, and back to idle? i couldn't get it started again, sounded like it was flooded. Adjust idle?

any help would be awesome, preesh

Re: 3.0 RPM range???

1. 4200 - 4600 rpm
2. 35-45 mph
3. Sure, raise and lower the drive a little
4. Impropper starting procedures, carb or choke out of adjustment, needs tuneup, bad lower shift cable.

Re: 3.0 RPM range???

i bought a 2004 tahoe 3.0 merc. and it runs great top speed 40 pulls wakeboards great for a 3.0 but the rpms never reach over 2500; idel show 600.runs greats starts great shuts off with no problems does not try to keep runing as i have read on many post..

Could the tack be wired wrong set up for 6 cyl.
if so is there a book to show how it should be wired all factory parts.

I have a '07 180 Larson Sport, 3.0 VP SX drive that does about 40 while pulling a tube with 2 in the boat. My RPM's are about 4200. Your Tach has to be off...

yea i was at 43mph and the rpms at 4700. it seems kinda high. would at larger pitch prop take care of this? maybe just a step up. I wish my tilt gauge worked cause i need to find a sweet spot at top speed

oh and i think 2500 is really really low so check that gauge.

Hey Scoop,
That "sweet spot" is gonna vary depending on how calm or rough the water is and how much load you have on the boat, its somethin ya just kinda get the feel of.

Re: 3.0 RPM range???

You should hook up an engine analyzer to the number 1 spark plug and verify the RPMs against what your gauge is reading and then make the appropriate adjustments. But you've probably found the correct connections.
