Re: Where do you keep your boat?
I keep mine in the garage. When I was looking to buy I had a calculator in one hand for payments and a measuring tape in the other to make sure it would fit!
The above post (quoted) from Rober185 brought a grin to my face.
I'm a newbie boater. Wife and I decided to take the plunge at the Minneapolis Boat Show last January. Wanted something we could cruise around in with the dogs (for her) and go fishing in for me and my son. Had to be light, so aluminum, and easy on gas, so 4 cylinder 4-stroker. But most of all, it had to fit in the garage.
Measured length, height and width of garage, then made same measurements on all the boats we looked at. We found a model that fit our needs perfectly.
Big day comes. Get boat, take it for shakedown trial, tow it home. Wife gets out to help direct me back it in. Just as the rig is approaching the garage door she yells, "STOP!!!" One of those blood curdling screams, if you know what I mean. Then she says, "Ken, you're not going to like this."
Get out, walk back and stand next to her and there it is. No way the outboard would fit in the garage door; way too high. For a brief nanosecond the thought went through my mind..."Oh God, what have I done. All that money. How could I miss this in all the measuring I did?"
So I began to rethink the buying process, and it hit me that all the boats we saw on display and measured were with the motor tilted down. The dealer had tilted ours all the way up before he sent us on our way. Duh!
After tilting the motor down it was obvious it would fit under the top of the door. Next test was the windshield. Yep, it made it, too; just as I had measured. By a whopping 1 1/2 inches!
