hi i have an evinrude 85hp shortshaft what distance
below the transom should the prop be for a good
performance , Hope this made sense thanks

The anti-ventilation plate, which is the horizontal plate that is just above the propeller, should be at least even with the bottom of the boat if not a liitle higher. When cruising, the A/V plate should be level.

it was'nt at the right level,ie to high

Depends on how high. If you have it on a jack plate, you can go quite a bit higher.

Steering changes with the height, but there are some performance advantages.

What is the year of your motor? I am most familiar with the early series in the 1970s.
