4.3 v6 omc choke need help

have 4.3 v6 omc 1986 purchased rebuilt carb got carb with electric choke instead of hot air choke like mine has how do i convert to electric choke called a few mechanics no good answers

my OMC came with electric choke, 12v when key is on applied to bi-metal spring inside choke housing, spring heats up and slowly opens the choke. Don't know what kind of set-up you have whats it look like, did you not get instructions.

no they sent wrong carb to me supposed to be one with hot air choke just trying to figure out if i have to replace with a new start switch mechanic said to just tie into 12 volot wire and should work

Electric chokes need 12 volts when the ignition is on, not all the time or your battery will go dead and the choke won't work properly.

Connect it to 12v ignition switched and it'll work great.

do i need to replace ignition switch with a new one any ideas on what type

No, your ignition switch is fine, and we're talking about "ignition switched 12 volt supply", not the switch itself. That's an option, but I wouldn't recommend it.

You need to find a convenient source for 12 volts that is switched on when the engine is running. There's more than one place for it on your engine, but I'm not familiar with it. You may need to look at a wiring diagram.
