Re: how long is gas good for

I typically add to the stabil fuel at the beginning of the season. I wouldn't hesitate to just add at this point either, especially at around $4.00 per gallon. I don't think you would have any problems. I once, when my son was a new born, left my boat in storage over a summer. The next summer I simply added to whatever was left in the tank and didn't have any problems. Maybe somone else has different opinion or better reason for replacing your fuel. You didn't mention how big your gas tank is, but a quarter tank is nothing plus you already ran it on last years fuel and didn't mention that you had any problems with it.

I read in a motorcycle magazine that gas doesn't actually go "bad" for a year or more if it is in a sealed container, I would think if you put stabilizer in just put fresh gas on top of what is there and you will be fine.

I had 10-12 gallons of 2-3 year old gas and I just siphoned it out, put it in my chevy truck and went boating!

I brought my boat out of storage after 7 years this past spring. It had a full tank of 94 octane with plenty of stabilizer in it when stored. I had no problems with this fuel. I have used up this tank and too many more since with no ill effects. I think if it's properly stabilized it is good for quite a while.

Just a thought, but you might consider waiting until the start of next season before you add any more gas. That way, the gas you are adding will be fresh and the mix you end up with (several months from now) will probably be the best. Either way, make sure you put in some more stabilizer when you add gas.

Well, the other half will tell you to fill your tank to keep moisture out... I know, im evil!!!

Gas starts breaking down after a week. On the 8th day, call me at 1.800.555.2976 for pick-up and proper disposal.:D

ETHANOL is not a friend of motors made before 1992. It eats up the fuel hoses and removes varnish from the carb surfaces and clogs the jets. We get 10% ethanol now and it's creating a lot of problems with outboards in a short period of time. I read that without stabilizer gas is doing bad things after only 3 weeks if it contains ethanol.
