2.5L Head is toast now what?

Ok coupler went in the boat in my signature. Replaced it.

Dip the boat in the water get about a mile, water pump shaft goes. Replaced it.

Yesterday get about 5 miles head went.

Dejected does not even come close to the word.

Ok where i get a head?

Can't i use a auto head? What will fit?

1980 Citation?

Oh wonderful, all knowing, masters of the boating realm help a down and out wanna be boater.

Casting numbers off the head are,2778962 120 86.

Part # current-986767. Old # 982241. Is there a way to cross reference to a auto head?

Does someone know of a used one? Maybe fresh water?

what did you do to the head? have a massive overheat and warp it? where you lugging the motor and tuliping the valves?
Can ya just bring the head to a machine shop?

auto heads will work. but you gotta go way back in the books.
your gonna find it in 60-70's chevy II's, and other gm products from that era

I used a place called TRI STATE Heads . I found them on the net.
They repaired a Kohler OHV head on my tractor. Done a great job.
There web pictures shows some pretty screwed up heads (lots of cracks)
They weld them up and refinish them.

Discovered behind the t-stat housing in the head a hole into the valve pushrod hole.

Aint gonna fix that. Never saw that before.

Gotta get a used one.

Nope,.... No auto heads will fit.....

Another head from a 2.5l Boat motor will,...
Mercruiser,.. OMC,... Volvo,... Any of them....

A 3.0l head will bolt on,..
But I don't know if the Valves will hit the block due to the tiny bore of the 2.5l...

Ebasic power has a 3.0 they say will fit a 3.0 and a 2.5.

But all the numbers i get are they are 2 different heads.

I need a 2.5 head fresh water used.

Anyone ever see that problem before.

And a good thing i didn't break on bolt.

Took off the manifold no problem. Still good.

Hmmm.....
On the heads...
I say yes... Bondo says no.

But.... do some homework and research Chevrolet 153 engines from 1960 to 1970 found primarily in the nova's and chevy II's. I'm almost 99% sure it's the same head.

As far as what ebasicpower lists.... I dunno about that
the 2.5 is 153 cubes
the 3.0 is 181
The heads are going to have different combustion chambers
I'd see what I could do about finding a 2.5 head instead of mickey mousin around with whata got.

Not sure about your issue... can you post a pic or 2 about what you got for this "hole"?

Ayuh,.... Of Course they're Different Heads,.... They're different Motors....

You asked what would Fit,+ Run,.....??

There are Various different Heads,... Some have different Ports,.. Some different Chamber Volumes,.. Some with different Sized Valves,...
But,....
They'll All bolt on,+ Run......

If you install a 3.0 head and use the 2.5 manifold, you'll have poor port matching. If cash isn't a problem, get a rebuilt 3.0 and throw it in.

Local guy used boat parts, had my 2.5 head. Good shape too. He threw in the bolts.

He has everything great price also. Whole motors.

Anyway leak down test on head is a.o.k.

Waiting for gaskets.

Third times the charm they say.

Busy painting the head and the manifold, over and over ha.

A LOT of of us are in that club!! It's even worse if you buy a OMC 460!!

Ok new to me used head on.

Everything is a.o.k.

Running good everything is good.

Changed oil.

I should buy stock in a oil company .

Whats gonna happen next?
