Re: 1961 14' runabout

If you take it apart....... remove the lenses ........... you might be able to get it replated after it has been polished smooth.
How do I go about smoothing it out? what tool do I need to do it or do I have to take it to some type of shop?

BTW: actually it is apart, I just pieced it together for the pic. I tried to put a wheel wire to it but all that did was turn it black, pits still there.

Look in your yellow pages for local Chome shops they should be able to make it look like new :D. I will tell you it wont be cheap but you also wont find one that looks like thata one new although you could try ebay for NOS ( New Old Stock).

Thanks, I'll try the yellow pages & get some quotes, not trying to spend more than I bought the boat for. I can see me now, telling someone I paid $100 for the boat and $200 for the bow light  I can see dishing $ out on all the other stuff but not the light.

So I'm assuming there's no way to smooth it out myself

50 bux was in my mind as the highest I would go, hope it won't go over that cause I really would like to put it back were it belongs.
I've seen the ones at wally world and they look like all the others, they always say you gotta pay to play :(

Hey Keepinitreel

I have at least 2 or 3 "old style" bow lights lying around the shop in a box

if you just pay for shipping you can have one for free :D
I live in Wake Forest NC not far from VA so shipping shouldn't be much

Let me know and I will drag them out and take photos and you can pick one

I think they came from 1960's era boats and are in pretty good shape

Re: 1961 14' runabout

Ok

I "dragged" them out today

I only have two

They are Identical and "old timey looking"

Chrome is Great on one, and so so on the other

Lenses on the so so one in excellent shape, lenses on the chrome one have a "burn" spot on the inside but not so bad

You can have them both and make one good one out of it

I didn't have time to take pics today, got a nightmare of a porsche project in the shop right now that kept me busy

I will try and take a few pics in the AM

Might have some other "bits" I can toss your way. I know I have at least one VERY OLD SCHOOL looking tachometer as well which would be cool on your boat. Possibly a speedometer as well that is old school (1960). you would need to only buy the pitot tube and hose to get the speedometer working

the tachometer should work with your force, but post in the force forums to ask THAT question

Being a mechanic by trade I feel a Tachometer is a must have :)

By the way how is the "force" fairing? Has it turned to the "Dark Side" on you lol? I am almost ready to go with my 68 Glaspar, and now find my 48 special johnson has a leaky (oil) lower unit)

I'll shoot pics tomorrow

I figure it shouldn't cost more than about $20 to ship since I am so close.

regards

Hey Dave, the force was already on the dark side when I got it, but just like Luke said " I can feel that there's still good in him" :D

As for all the goodies, YES please pack it all

Send me a PM with your address after you post the picks so I can send the funds

Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey man I just HAV2 comment on ur trailer!! It looks AWESOM!! I seen that and I'm like "no way! Is that the same trailer!?"! :) It really got me going cause my trailer looks at LEAST as bad as urs did. Mine needs some welding done on it....new leaf springs. The old ones were shot and someone put wooden blocks under them to fill the gap. I am planning on gettin the whole thing sandblasted and repainted then. My dad picked up a set of water-proof LED trailer lights @ Tractor Supply yesterday on sale. So now Im really anxious to get it done and see how it turns out!!

Keep it up man! Doin' great!

THANKS :) , yours should come out great also cause your doing a great job already in your thread.

I used a foam roller & foam brush. Also used a bristle brush for the nooks & crannies and the parts you wont see and smoothed it out with the foam brush (bristle was leaving brush strokes)

But I gotta give some credit to my 10yr daughter also, she's the one that painted in all the nooks & crannies and the parts you wont see.

I also changed out most of the rusted bolts with new ones & that really made it look a whole lot better. Now all I have to do is take off the 8" tires and throw on some 12", the fenders have enough clearnce for even larger but 12' will do.
BTW I was surprised to find that Bass Pro Shop had the cheapest price on trailer light kits w/ side markers ($26.99), everywhere I went, I was looking at $36 - $49 bux and that wasn't even for LED, just regular bulbs.

There are two bow lights
1 tachometer (on left)

They look good Dave :) regular mail is the way to go, takes no time to get here from there plus it's easier than waiting on the UPS man who only shows up as soon as you step out for second :D

Zip code 23805 & will PM you the address, also let my know how much I need to send you & I'll get it in the mail today or tomorrow morning.
Never thought I'd come across a find like this, thanks for not throwing anything out.

Very nice deed indeed

Bowlight is def... nice & will fit perfect but the tach & speedometer are a super bonus :D, I thought I would have to buy new ones. The speedometer that on mine was very similar looking to the one in the pic but it was busted, 69Starcaft's gauges are in way better shape :)

Thanks for stoppin in Nico.

Oops!

I am wrong on the Tachometer, I'm sorry. I have 2 of them, one much older, and then the one pictured. I thought it came from the boat with the old Johnson 50 Outboard, but it turns out the one pictured is the one that came off a boat with a 4 cylinder "car style" motor i.e. inboard outboard.

I am not sure this will work with an outboard

Please someone chime in and elaborate, but don't outboard tachs count stator pulses or something different than a standard auto or inboard outboard tach?

Keepinitreel you are still welcome of course to have it, and shipping won't cost more or any less without it, but after realizing which boat it came off (and motor) I wanted to point that out. Maybe you can "trade" it for something you need lol

post in the Force forums and ask...I always like to have a tach and to me the more gauges the better to monitor engine :D

too busy today to box up and get quote but after Googling the zipcode you gave I can't expect it to cost any more than about $10 if that. From reading earlier I think that is well within your $50 budget

of course, like all of us, I am always willing to take donations towards my money pit LOL (this is a joke...stuff is yours free)

After I figure out how to pm you I will do so

KeepinItReel conrats on the boat purchase, your hard work will all be worth it once she's back on the water.:D

I'm impressed with the restoration and can't wait to see what she's gonna look like when completed. By the way are you planning to christen her with a new name for the first launch?

69starcraft it's good to see the boating community helping out like that:)
