Have used clips and adhesive both........................no problem with either...................the adhesive looks cleaner, but I'm not sure how I'd remove the mirror short of breaking it.......:eek::eek:

It depends on the weight of the mirror and the surface behind it. If you can screw into wood only clips are needed. If sheet rock use clips with sheet rock screws AND a little liquid nails.

Re: best way to mount bathroom mirror?

I have three bathrooms, each with sizeable mirrors. They sit in an anodized aluminum channel, that is screwed to the studs, then held at the top by two plastic clips that are centered then screwed into inserts in the drywall. There was no adhesive used and they were easy to remove.

If you use this method, I would use gloss lacquer on the bottom backside of the mirror, then use some clear silicone across the front of the channel. This will keep any moisture, that would drift/splash down into the channel, from eating the backing on the bottom of the mirror.

I just had to have the bottom inch, on my three mirrors, cut off due to moisture damage after 20 years. The method above is how I reinstalled them after new wall paper was installed in the baths.

It never occured to me that all the water splashed on the mirrors would run down into the channel and eventually eat the reflective backing away.

They have some clips called "Monkey Hangers" or something of the sort. It is a 3/4 loop with a tip that catches the slots in whatever you're hanging. It works wonders in sheetrock. My bathroom mirror weighs about 60 pounds and two of these in 1/2" sheetrock hold it just fine.

I recently had a medium-size mirror installed by a glass dealer, and they used an adhesive that was specifically made for that purpose. Just squirted about four big blobs from the tube onto the mirror back and pressed it to the sheetrock. No clips or other types of supports were used.

Upside down, or in some cases, with the reflecting side toward the wall. Floor mounts can be interesting at times, as well.

3M makes a two sided tape that I used in my bath
The mirror is still hanging after 2 years
Home Depot has it in 3 or 4 strengths, go for the strongest
(oh....and make sure the shiny side is out)

WizeOne is using the method I have used and that usually comes with the mirror. I do not use adhesives. 1) Because they do not come off easy and usually tear the paint off the wall or removes the reflective coating off the back. 2) They are too permanent a solution for something that is usually the first to be replace when a bathroom is remodeled.

DON'T spray ANY liquid on the face of the mirror, when cleaning. Wet your towel and wipe the surface of the mirror.
When spraying liquid it will run down to the bottom edge and wick around to the back of the mirror and attack the silver coating.
The silicone MAY work, but the habit of NOT spraying will be the best defense.

I have a large 3' diameter round mirror over the head. I used picture hangers for this. It leans slightly downward which could be easily cured by gluing a wood block on the bottom. But this arrangement works out well as my wife is 14" shorter than I am.

Well I am sure that over the years cleaning accounted for a good part of the moisture that wound up in the channel, I don't know for sure 'cause 'I don't do mirrors';) But the other is just from splashing while either washing my face or wetting out my hair in the sink. Try as I might, I cannot keep from splashing the mirror. The sink is just too close to the back splash.

I do now wipe the mirror after use, I just did all the above proceedures as insurance because I do not want to have to replace those mirrors in my lifetime.
