Re: Water Leaking Out!?! What Did I Hit!?!

It looks too clear to have been stagnant water there for too long. From the looks of where you drilled it, I'm thinking its the void between the outside of the stringers and the side of the boat. It could have been covered over to provide flat space for batteries or trim pumps, but it probably is water accessable further forward somewhere. Usually new(er) boats have the bilges gelcoated so standing water should not pose too much of an issue, however Regal should have provided a drain hole to allow it to drain to the center/aft section of the boat hull where the bilge pump is. That hole could be blocked up with debris. See if there is any way to view where that section of hull could have gotten water into it... maybe under the seats on the bowrider (I think its a BR) or from the center storage locker on the floor between the seats...

I've contacted Regal with my situtation and a link to the thread. Hopefully they'll reply quickly. I'll post what they say.

try the compressed air to see where it's getting in . if you drilled into a void space now the swim platform brace is going to be pushing against it watch out for cracking around the brace

I would be an idiot if I didn't listen...

No word back yet from Regal. I tried calling them, but it was after hours (time zones).

Have called a few places and will take it in next week. I will also call Regal on Monday if I don't get a reply via e-mail by early afternoon. I've also been meaning to ask them what the "Life Time Plus Warranty" is all about.

My pet subject at the moment... I have just had a warranty claim knocked back by a diving equipment company based in the US;) on a seam failure that had a 'Lifetime Warranty". Not happy as a new BC will cost me around $700!!

Good luck with Regal and I hope they do the right thing...

I was looking at the picture below. Hard to tell from here, but you might want to measure from the centerline, and see if that might be at the end of a stringer. I know of a coupld of boat manufactures that use hollow stringers (except for some foam), that feed directly into the transom. And your hole may be exactly at the end of stringer. Can you see where the drill bit came through?

Don, no I can't see the hole from the inside. In the picture below, I've drawn the areas where I can see.

Since this has nothing to do with an engine problem, I will move it over to the Boat Restoration and Building forum. That is the forum that covers all the hull repairs.

I am trying to figure out why the engine has anything to do with the water. You had said that you were going to try running the engine with the muffs and see what happens. What would that have anything to do with water inside your transom? Thats like saying, my prop broke so im going to replace my steering wheel. Just dont understand the reason for running the engine to see what happens. Good luck and i hope that you are not having to replace the transom or stringers like i had to when i had water coming out of a hole like that. You would be supprised how much water can get trapped in there. The water that came out of my transom was perfectly clear just like that. I did not drill all the way through the transom so i knew that it was coming out of the transom. Once i pulled the inner skin i could see the watterlogged wood.

Just read through this whole thread. I think (originally), that with a dry bilge, clear water coming out, and the hole being in the vicinity of the engine, he thought the water was from the engine's cooling system. By running on muffs, if more water came out the hole, then he may have drilled though a hose or something.

Although no one's sure where that water came from, I think the cooling system's halfway been ruled out. (of course, any seasoned mechanic/troubleshooter knows that you don't rule out ANYTHING until it's been confirmed, so who knows right now. Maybe you should run it on muffs).

Eager to hear what (if any) response you get from Regal.

I understand what your saying, but it will have to be for another time.

I'd be more concerned if the water that drained had an odor or color to it. It was, however, crystal clear. I even tasted it - no taste, no smell, no residue, nothing. QUOTE]

I think this will be my quote for the day :)

Re: Water Leaking Out!?! What Did I Hit!?!

Having watched this thread and seeing the picture, I've refrained from posting as long as possible. But now I can't resist.
Obviously there is a little pressure behind this gyser.
I've drilled into wet transoms before, never hitting anything like this.
There has always been no pressure and never clear water.
Although it looks like he's inside the engine compartment, I'd put my money on a void just to starboard of the engine hole under the floor.
The boat is way too new and obviously doesn't live at dock.
The worst transoms I have seen were caused by a breach in the transom where someone has butchered it for one reason or another. These were on boats much older.
Hopefully he's just hit a void with some trapped water that has found it's way down.
Well, that's my 2 cents worth.

Thought I had mentioned it before, but I did drill through the transom. Again, I cannot see the drill holes in the engine compartment.

... Hopefully he's just hit a void with some trapped water that has found it's way down. ...

That's what I'm thinking. I'll have to wait and see what the boat shop finds, and what they think over at Regal...

Re: Water Leaking Out!?! What Did I Hit!?!

Don't mean to pile on here but that water did not accumulate from exposure to any rain. Also your boat is now 11 years old and I suspect that water has been in there for some time. It does not take but a matter of months for rot to get a good foothold.

I sure hope that Regal is able to shed some light on this mystery. They should know exactly what surrounds the void that the water has accumulated in and how the water most likely got there.
