Re: What are your funeral plans?

Like many of you I too would be cremated. I also have requested that I have an at sea burial from an at sea submarine. I have been witness to a burial ceremony at sea and was awed by the respect that our sailors give the departed.

On a side note, I have heard stories (never myself witnessed) of at sea burial ashes being *poofed* by the wind into a young Ensign's face. The small chance of that happening with my ashes puts a smile on my face, one last dig on the Khakis on my way out of this world!

I'm going to try and have legislation passed in Calipornia that states every politician in Calipornia, after his/her passing, is given an enema and is buried in a shoe box. This should make extra burial room for the poor working stiff's whom have been financially bled to death by the tax and spend politicians here.

My instructions are that I be cremated and my ashes dumped off the Wabasha St. Bridge in Saint Paul into the Mississippi. I figure parts of me will be scattered from Saint Paul all the way to New Orleans.

Still, I doubt I'll care at that point. :D

I take it the Nag, Nag, Nag thing didn't go over too well. How long did she give ya?:D

I might be good till after the Super Bowl but I'm skating on thin ice here.!!:D

In reality, my wife is my best friend and I share all these jokes with her. She's a great sport and laughs harder at some of them than I do. I love her more now than when we met 30 years ago.:)

I would like to be buried in the largest plot money can buy, placed upright in the drivers seat of my car with a full tank of gas and the radio cranked. Foot firmly planted on the accelerator as I silently rocket to the afterlife. Then I want to have a big elaborate monument built above me commerating all of my achievements with a video tribute on a huge plasma display running 24/7.

Or be cryogenicly frozen, so long as they can bring me back young again. Whatever works.... Im only 26 so I dont plan on doing the dying thing for a while yet, lol.

It is only recently that I have added allowance for a memorial service and tree planting to my instructions to my survivors.

Funerals, memorial services or remembrance ceremonies are not for us, they are for those who we leave behind. It is for them to say goodbye, to share memories and to close the chapters in their lives that we inhabit.

As you youngsters get closer to the end and your descendants multiply you will take that more seriously.

As usual, JB is spot on. Unfortunately, I have been attending too many funerals in the past few years. Yes, a funeral is for the living. A funeral is pomp and circumstance and a ritual to help the living cope with the passing of a loved one. A closure if you will. We, the deceased, well that's just it. We're deceased and don't know what is going on.
I just don't buy into the idea that we're "up above" looking down on the loved ones we left behind.

As for myself, I don't plan on being around for my funeral so I'll leave that detail to others.

Once the contents are gone, what's left is merely biodegradable packing material and needs no special considerations for disposal.

I just can't see spending 5k or so on a coffin and another 2k for a hole in the ground. I've told my wife I want to be cremated and have told her of my wishes in how to dispose of my cremains.
What are your plans?

What if your wife goes first?
I told mine I was gonna stick a ham bone in her *** and the dogs drag her away.

And in that spirit I would like a few New Orleans jazz musicians to be there so there will be a swinging party in my memory. If they had nothing good to say about my life,at least they will have something good to say about my funeral.
I have yet to find a rabbi who will officiate my swinging funeral service, but then again,I have no immediate plans or intentions to kick the bucket.

Carefull there Chief, your wife might get the wrong idea. She may think you meant to save the money to make good "wake" and drop your funeral money on a nice Mastercraft with a wake tower :)

I know a guy that said he wanted to be buried standing up with a bottle of liquor:D in one hand and a hatchet in the other. When asked why he said "Im not sure just who I might meet and I want to be ready to fight, run or just have a drink"

Re: What are your funeral plans?

I have a bottle of 12-year-old Knockando scotch that was bottled in 1986. This is saved for my the college friends I have spent a weeknd with every every fall for 22 years. My only request is to have a party since it will be a good excuse for most people to get out of work. My Body, heck I don't care. whatever is cheapest.

Re: What are your funeral plans?

love the reef idea, that would be great.

as for me it's cremation and drop the ashes along my favorite motorcycle routes through the smoky mountains in Tenn and Carolina. Nothing like a sunrise in the mountains. That way I can see them through eternity.
funny i have a t shirt that reads put your bones on the line route 129. guess i'll wear that to the burn box. :D
