Hello:
My engine was overheating and I needed to replace some parts so I removed my lower unit.
I removed my lower unit from my 50 hp this week by disconnecting the shift coupler...... After talking with Wayne on here I learned that is is best to undue the bolts that hold the lower unit and then release the cotter pin that holds the lower shift rod in place.
However.....since I undid the coupler that holds the lower shift rod to the upper shift rod, and then reconnected it when I was finished, I have come across some issues.
I marked the location of the shift coupler and reconnected it to the same location. When I did this the motor was supposed to be in nuetral but was actually in gear. I moved the drive lever into reverse and found that it was very tight.
I readjusted the coupler location and found that spot where the motor was in nuetral but the coupler location was unthreaded much more then the original......is there something else that I should adjust?? Do I need to adjust the forward and reverse gear locations?
One other thing to note...when I removed the drive shaft to replace the impeller it was a little tight coming out and when I put it back in I had to hold it down...Im assuming this is just from the gear oil pushing against shaft coming down.
Thanks!!!
