Red Stator Conversion Adapter Question

I have a Mariner 50hp 4 cylinder outboard with serial # 5963889. The stator that was on it went bad, it was stamped 398-5454A24, which if I'm correct is a 9 amp stator. I have acquired a red stator part # 398-832075A3 which I believe is a 16 amp stator. I've seen mention of a conversion adapter but have been unable to gather a whole lot of info about them. Do they make a conversion adapter that I can install to reduce from 16 amps to 9 amps so I don't fry any parts, or what is the correct route I should be proceeding. Please help and thanks for your time.

Re: Red Stator Conversion Adapter Question

If you have a genuine Merc stator, then all the necessary information for conversions for all engines that are applicable to that stator, are on the instructions that came with it....

Yes, it's an original merc item, but it not a brand new one so therefore I don't have any paperwork with it. I searched through my Seloc repair manual but was unable to come across any info there either. Thanks.

The manuals don't have the upgrade info... It only comes with the new part... Sorry I can't help you... One of the guys who's still a dealer may be able to open one up and scan the instructions for you...
