Re: Cat Deterrent ???

If they're in your yard, humanely trap one, or three. Call local bylaw enforcement officers/humane society/animal control. Where I live, they will present owner with approx $150 release bill...if they want their cat back.

If they have three cats, they'll shortly be out $450...or 3 cats.

Had this problem 2 months ago here. Informed a neighbour (who let her cat out of her basement apartment window next to our house to do it's business on our yard) that it could cost her cabbing to the humane society and paying $150 to get her cat back, or she could buy a catbox and litter and keep her pet indoors. Haven't seen it since. Some people think clearer when you spell their options out for them.

I have used ammonia in a spray bottle to keep cats from scratching open garbage bags and scattering the garbage.

Don't know how that would work unless you used a super soaker.

I have an indoor cat, use a spray bottle of water to show my displeasure with her latest tricks. Really works when she thinks 04:00 is the appropriate time to wake in the morning, keep the bottle on the head board of the bed.

Have you thought of a moat with aligators ?

good luck

Re: Cat Deterrent ???

The three biggest issues between neighbours are, trees, pets, noise. I have, over the years, had to deal with all of them.

Usually when I move to a new house, or new people move in next to me, I make a point of getting to know them. That way I will know if they will be responsive if a problem arises.

If they are not likely to care if they beloved furbag is causing problems, DO NOT talk to them about it. As they will not bother doing anything about it, then when you take the next step, they will know that you were the one. Be that some form of retribution or talking to authorities.

Cats.... I have tried a lot of methods of stopping them 'carping' in my yard. I had one very persistant one a few years ago. I hurled lemons at it, I trapped it in a cat trap and hit it with the high pressure hose... Little bastard still didn't get the hint. I eventually had to make a permanent solution.

Please don't dump it in the country, or you'll have me chasing YOU! They are destructive, nasty pieces of work (sorry to the 'cat lovers' out there, but that's what they are!).

My local authorities have tried to enforce cat control laws but because catching these 'cat lovers' who allow they little darlings to have free roam is difficult, I don't know of any that have been prosecuted.

Catch them, take them fishing :D:D

GATORS! Turn the front yard into a swamp and fill it with gators, snakes, turtles, infestation of mosquitoes,,, that would be novel out here in the desert. :D

I was thinking something along the lines of a puma, coyote, badger, chupracabra

But,,, while an upper tier predator does sound like an interesting solution, I don't know what I'd feed them after the first week...

people sometimes end up in the newspapers for things like that.

personally, i live in the country. the other side of the lake is mostly undeveloped. i wouldn't drop one off in someone else's neighborhood.

I'm not talking about fishing in a lake.. I have the whole Indian Ocean on my doorstep :D.... I'm only a few miles from some seriously deep water... and it's full of my friends (Great whites) :D:D:D:D

You intimate that you would feed someone else's pet to a shark, alive; but you're opposed to gun ownership because guns are dangerous. I'd much rather shoot an animal than do that to it. Man, you're sick.

not sure about achris but i'm not talking about anyone's pets. a pet would be taken care of, not out all of the time roaming the neighborhood.

Re: Cat Deterrent ???

Salty, I think you missed my point.

I didn't... I said nothing about it being alive.... And I am also referring to animals that roam around the neighbourhood making a nuisance of themselves... Like pissing and 'carping' in my yard...

I don't have a cat or dog, so a few of the local toms seem to think my place is up for grabs. There is nothing worst than going out on the back patio to enjoy my breakfast and being greeted with the putrid odour of cat ****!

If you are so concerned about my actions please give me an alternative. (Putting up with it is not an alternative!) I should be able to live in my house without having to deal with some inconsiderate who can't be bother to look after their animals.

Re: Cat Deterrent ???

One of my neighbors has 3 outdoor cats that are a general nuisance and I'm looking for a way to keep them away from my house and yard. The little flea bags broke the final straw as they started using my other neighbors front yard as their litter box and now I have carp piles outside my front door :mad::mad:

I dumped a bunch of cayanne pepper on the carp pile and they went to a different spot in the yard. Need something to keep those carpping machines away from my house and out of the neighbors yard.

Suggestions??? (other than a .22 or varmint trap)

The real bad part about the whole situation,,, the neighbor with cat carp piles in their yard is oblivious to it, it's like they think it's modern art or something, too lazy to clean it up. After I figure out how to keep the cats away I'll have to clean it up

I don't know about the cats, but if you get one of these ...

... I promise I will quit carping by your front door!

No it won't.... The one I had the biggest problem with would come inside the house and eat our cats food! I trapped the little darling and hit it with the full force of the garden hose for a good 5 minutes... When I released it, that was one wet cat! It was back and eating our cat's food again in less than 24 hours!!!

Good lord all mighty ST, what the heck spawned that thing???

While water is a deterrent, all it does is makes them run every time they see me, doesn't keep them away.

I snuck up on one the other day, 10' away, gently lifted the hose off the rack, pointed the nozzle accurately as possible,,, squeezed the trigger knowing the cat was going to be soaked to the gills. WRONG, the kids left the nozzle on mist,,, and, well, I misted the cat :cool::D
