Spray some Kroil or PB blaster into the anchor points....
You can get it moving by placing two 3/4" pieces of wood between the prop & housing & tightening the prop nut, once youget it moving use your puller.....
If I were to heat it, I would use a torch....
Mapp gas works well.....;)

If it's been in salt water year after year for many years and there is a lot of corrosion (and since you drlled the carrier nut out I would expect it is) you need BIG HEAT REAL FAST.
The big part is a real torch, then you have to heat the areas the carrier is still touching, very quickly so the housing expands a little and the carrier stays a little cooler.
But, you also have to not melt the alum. Since I have never used a temp gun to see what that number is, I can't really tell you how to judge. But you can not do it with a propane torch or a heat gun. Just not enough heat quick enough. You also have to have the puller in place and pressure on it when you start heating.

i can tell you because i've priced it out. Even if you keep your gears, if you need to reseal an alpha lower, AND if your replacing all the bearings, and if your paying somebody to do it...... it's more cost effective to get an SEI drive.

Ken let me give you a little tip , if you decide to rebuild you old unit - when you get to the part where you reinstall the carrier bearing before you try to install it take a rule or tape measure and measure the dia fo the opening to the housing then once you establish the measurement turn the tape measure 90 degree to he first measurement ansd see if there is any diff , it usually is egg shaped even thou its very small and im taliking in the thousands here .once you have established the widest piont in the dia of the opening take a largr C clamp and place it across the opening at the widest point tighten it a little bit usuall just enought to hold itself on the case now try to place the carrier bearing in and it will be a lot eaiser going in and it will make the tighten of the collar nut a whole lot easier. If its still tight turn the clamp a little more. but be careful and dont tighten it to much or you will warp the case the other way I did mine and this made it a lot easier. Good luck tboss

take a rule or tape measure and measure the dia fo the opening to the housing then once you establish the measurement turn the tape measure 90 degree to he first measurement ansd see if there is any diff , it usually is egg shaped even thou its very small and im taliking in the thousands here

Use a tape measure to measure thousands of an inch of something being out of round?????

You two guys cant see 64 thou. of an inch maby its time for an eye exam Im 67 yrs old and I have no trouble see that. But maby being a machinest for 45 years has something to do with it. If you can see a human hair then you can see 3 thous. for that the average with of one. IMHO

Sorry, I just can't measure thousands of an inch with a tape measure, and that is what tboss suggested you use.

Below is his exact words, nothing about 64 thou there.

take a rule or tape measure and measure the dia fo the opening to the housing then once you establish the measurement turn the tape measure 90 degree to he first measurement ansd see if there is any diff , it usually is egg shaped even thou its very small and im taliking in the thousands here
